I have worked with and around A LOT of student athletes and this is such a cheap and intellectually elitist attitude. It is also flat wrong in many cases. There are bad apples, for sure. However, the prevalence of lazy, slack ass bad apples is actually a bit higher in the general student population than it is in the student athlete population.
90% of the student athletes that I have worked with are hard working, smart students. In addition, their organization and time management skills are a lot better than most undergrads.
I hate the "student athlete" stereotype.....
I agree with you in general. The difference is that the general population doesn't have their bad apples working closely with an "academic support staff" to make sure they take the right classes. Plus, athletes get to register for classes first, so even if everyone knows about an easy class, they will get all the spots. At Wisconsin, I could name you a few classes which are notoriously easy and fill requirements for graduation. Almost all of the classes will be filled with athletes.
