The Big ten is in trouble, since they have no stake in California, Florida or Texas. They're the only major conference with this problem, and therefore can't recruit the athletes needed to compete at a high level. The big 12 is in solid shape with 4 Texas schools, but it'd be nice to get a foot in another door. (florida or cali)

The good teams in the B1G pull players from all 3 of those states just fine. Having all your games broadcast nationally broadcast helps.

Because you say it it must be true. Never mind recruiting rankings.

In general I agree with you. To the bolded though, we got NONE of those this year.

And that was odd to me also. Nebraska was greeted with basically every big name B1G school their first 2 years, so the next 2 years they get none of them? Poor job by the schedule makers there. Even so, the divisional games vs Wisky, Iowa, and Minny (assuming Kill keeps that program going in the right direction) should be pretty good games year in and year out for Neb. Some years you're gonna get good crossover games and some years you wont.

You might pull some, but its much easier to get kids to stay close to home then it is to convince them to move to the midwest and play in a bad conference.

Yeah it's a scheduling problem. You would think that there are enough solid brand name teams in the B1G to ensure that each team gets at least one good home game a year. I'd take any of those teams you listed before.

Recruiting rankings are dominated by southern teams, so yes the rankings prove my point. Ohio is a solid state for recuits, so the buckeyes are doing fine. But do they produce enough to feed the entire conference?

Proximity to home is about #10 on the list of things that are important to college athletes. One trip for a home game in East Lansing, Ann Arbor, Happy Valley, Columbus, Lincoln, or Madison and the whole "move to the midwest" suddenly won't seem so bad to them.

The good players want to play somewhere with good national exposure where they can develop their talents and hopefully get to the NFL. Whether thats in the midwest, southeast, west coast, etc is secondary.

Except we are comparing the Big Ten to the Big 12 and the Big Ten has led the past few years, even as down as the league is.

Texas doesn't produce enough to feed their entire conference either. Hell, there aren't enough premier TX recruits to stock more than 2 teams. Its UT and OU every year and whenever one of the other programs in the 2 states rises up, its usually is because one of those 2 is going through down years.

The other programs have to make due with lesser recruits and rely on superior coaching, schemes, and sometimes just luck. Its the same story in every conference.

This is a pretty funny article considering that a Big East school and a mid-major are owning the Big 12 right now, while next is a perennial bottom dweller with a homeless guy for a head coach, and best is a team made up of 60% walk-ons and their coach is a political pitch guy to old folks. And then there's sooners pullin' the caboose behind that train wreck. There's a war for worst team in the whole nation between TT, Kansas and ISU. Texas is hanging it's hat on Charlie Strong's 5 things to make you really suck, and Mike Gundy's questioning his manhood right now.

I think from a pure football standpoint they made the wrong move. But money talks. Recruiting has taken a hit since they've joined, and they lost all their natural rivals, and it's going to be impossible for them to start up a rivalry with anybody in their division because it's a dumpster fire. I feel bad for the fans having to sit through that slate of home games. Man just awful.

Do you guys actually look at anything to come up with the stuff you spout off?

Nebraska's recruiting rankings since Pelini has been coach:
2008-25
2009-42
2010-29
(Nebraska joins Big Ten)
2011-16
2012-30
2013-22

Avg. Rank before joining B1G: 32
Avg. Rank after joining B1G: 22.66

(rankings from Rivals)

Not sure about that, not every member of the Big 10 is an AAU school

Nebraska isn't. They were before the offer to join the B1G was made, but have since been booted..

I'm not sure where you got those numbers, because they don't coincide with Rivals' rankings.

Since 2005 these have been their rankings:

2005: 5
2006: 20
2007: 13
2008: 30 (Bo's first year so he didn't get a full period to recruit)
2009: 28
2010: 22

Avg: 19.67

Joined B1G in 2011

2011: 15
2012: 25
2013: 17
2014: 32
2015: Currently 38

avg of first 4 years: 22.25(doesn't include 2015)

After a good initial surge, it's dipped back. And you could argue the 2011 class shouldn't belong to the B1G because they started recruiting those kids before Nebraska joined.(unless Nebraska doesn't recruit juniors)
