[ame=""]According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network[/ame], San Diego Chargers middle linebacker Donald Butler's new contract could be worth up to $48 million over seven years.

But essentially, according to Rapoport's report, the contract is a three-year deal worth nearly $20 million, with $12 million guaranteed.

So its three years at $6.6 million minimum, Seven years at $6.9 million a year average max.

Market is now set gentleman. Right around what lee and Ellerbe got last year strangely enough. $6.6 million a year for a guy who has injury issues.

That is crazy. We can say goodbye to Riley. No way the Skins pay that.

They are going to pay it to some one though. Now that the market is set, who is worth that kind of money thats available?? Its either pay riley or one of the other ILBs at or around his skill level market value. Or bring in a lesser player at a lesser price.

Im just saying

There is no one worth that kind of money. You can argue that Riley is a better player than Butler can could ask for more n the market. Cya Riley. I wouldn't even attempt to sign him back.

So then you are voting we bring in a lesser talented player because he will cost less against the cap? Personally i dont think any of these guys are worth the amounts they get paid to play a game for a living. But that being said, the market value has been set. You either sign a guy at market value, or you bring in a guy who is less of a player and thus will cost you less than what the market is.

You cant be certain about that b/c of a lot of cheaper players outplay the expensive players. young guys could step up and be big role players. You don't know Shak. What we do know is that you don't overpay for avg talent.

Its this sentiment that makes me actually hope Rak and riley walk. And that we bring in Talib, Byrd and all these other "elite" players that some people are drooling over. Because we have seen this exact same thing happen over and over again, and its always failed. So why should we actually expect it to play out any differently this time??

I wouldn't say that Riley will get that type of contract just yet. I don't think many teams think he is a better option than Butler. I still say give him a similar contract as Butler, but drop those numbers to 5 mill, maybe 5.5 mill, with incentives.

That sentiment, I understand where you are coming from. yes rak is worth resigning. I think they will tag him this year. Riley though. He really is just an avg talent. He probably hasnt reached his potential yet, but he is asking to get paid as if his contributions lifted up the others around him last year. He didnt. The defense did poorly. Rak is one of the only players on defense last year that really made a difference.

Sparks... With Butler getting that kind of deal in light of his injury history, you cant seriously think Riley will get a deal that caps out at $5.5 million after playing incentives. If his agent has any brains at all he will likely get riley at least $6 million a year average and likely closer to $6.5 after incentives. Around here some might say he is only worth $3.5 million a year. But if guys with proven injury concerns can get between $6-7 million a year, its a hard sell to say a guy who has produced and has not been injured is only worth half that.

then who are they going to bring in thats better and costs less. Or equal to and costs less. I think its a spin your wheels move. refuse to pay your own, go out and bring in free agents from other teams and wonder why it didnt work. In effect doing what we did over the past 15 years. the names changes, the moves stay the same.

Riley can be easily replaced Shark. He is not a pro bowl type player. You can even say that his replacement is already in house with Robinson.

And thats the problem. If he isnt a probowl type player we always assume he can easily be replaced. How well has that line of thinking worked out for us over the past few years?? and Robinson has not even lasted a single season for us but now he is a replacement for a starting ILB?? A guy who has been in the league for two years and has 11 total tackles?? Really?? thats a reach considering that he has ended the last two years on IR.

Typo on my part. I meant 5-5.5 mill base AND give him a little more if he performs well.
