So do I. I want him to test FA though. I think he will get less than expected.

Like I said, if two injury prone ILBs can get deals in the range of $6.6-7 million a year average over the past two seasons, no way should Riley get less than $6 million a season average.

I got to tell ya, this Butler signing raised my eyebrows a bit. If anything, this has to put resolve in Riley's position. I still don't see much outside interest for Riley, but this does probably make us increase our offer a bit.
I agree with the others, he will test the FA waters and he will be back.

Pretend you are Rileys agent for a moment. Sean Lee got $7 million a year on average last year. Now the year before he played in exactly six games. Then this past season he misses five games after getting that deal.

Butlerjust got a deal averaging at least $6.6 million a year, with a reported $28 million of that guaranteed. Now mind you Butler has also had an injury history. He missed his entire rookie season due to injury, and missed games due to injury the past two seasons. This is a guy who has a total of 5.5 sacks and 3 INTs with 257 total tackles to his name.

Ellerbe is another guy with questionable injury history and not much if any better production than Riley. And he got $6.9 million a year average.

Now if you are Rileys agent, you tell me you couldnt make a dam good case for your guy getting at least $6 million a year based on the fact that he has stats to match all three (aside from INTs which Lee has a ton of) AND more importantly Riley is NOT injury prone.

If Im his agent, after the Butler deal I just called Bruce Allen and asked him would he prefer the ribbed, or smooth side flavored.

I don't fault his agent at all. That is his job. Nor do I fault Riley for trying to get the best deal he can. His career could be over next year so he needs to get his while he can.

One point.....I get the injury thing, but you can't compare Lee and Riley. I'd pay Lee much more every day of the week and twice on sundays. Lee is a legitimate PB talent. He will be a force in this league for a few more years. Riley is no where close to his talent. Now Butler and Ellerbe, fairer comparisons.

Thats right, cause Lee is a play maker. But as I have said, you cant make many plays from the trainers table. LFB didnt make a single Pro Bowl until he had been in the league for ten years. But he was considered one of the most solid, dependable ILBs in the game. And he NEVER missed a game. I would take ten solid players who can actually stay on the field over one injury prone playmaker any day.
