Decided to make this in response to the "Iowa is a hotbed of college basketball talent". Which made me lol.

College basketball: These are the states with most players on top 25 teams

This is as of Nov. 2015, just a couple of months ago.

From where exactly do the best college basketball teams get their players? We wanted to answer that question, so we took a look at the rosters of all the men's Division I basketball teams ranked in the AP Top 25 preseason poll.

There were 377 student-athletes on the rosters of teams ranked in the poll and more of them came from California and Indiana than any other state.

California, the nation's most populated state, claims 37 competitors, including 10 who list Los Angeles as their hometown, the most of any city.

Indiana is the 15th-most populated state, but is represented by 32 players on top-25 rosters. Anyone who has watched Hoosiers understands the power and tradition of high school basketball in Indiana. This list confirms the passion for the game and depth of talent that emerges from its major metropolitan areas and small towns each season.

So California leads the way with 37, but Indiana comes in second with 32. Factor in population and Indiana is miles ahead per capita.

Yup. Indiana is rich in basketball talent, the trick is getting it to stay in state. MSU, Kansas, and Kentucky have been great at poaching our players for awhile now. :lm:

Michigan too with Irvin, Albrecht, McGary, Robsinson. Duke took the Plumlee's and Georgetown has Smith-Rivera. Xavier has Trevon Bluiett

A zillion years ago, back in the 1950s, the elite players in the country were from Indiana. They went to colleges all over the country and sometimes stayed on to coach in other states. They took their knowledge with them and that fueled a lot of national enthusiasm for the game. In later years, the game went to the inner city playgrounds and began to change.

That's a bunch of trivial history. I don't know that there is more talent in Indiana but the reputation still works pretty well.

If you look at the lower divisions, like the NAIA, you will see a lot of Indiana kids on the rosters.

The sport is global now, though. Lots of really good players are coming from Europe. Indiana can be proud of its heritage but it's probably a little overrated now, though a lot of Indiana college teams made post-season this year.

Did you read the article? Of the top 25 teams, 32 players from Indiana were on the roster. Which, per capita is miles ahead of any other state.

Since that was stated in the first post, I didn't see a need to repeat it. Per capita is an interesting stat.

In 1990, this crowd showed up for the Indiana HS state title game at the old RCA Dome.

Despite the Plumlee's being from Indiana, they played all four years (all three of them) of their HS ball in North Carolina.

Also, would like to point out that on paper, NC's class of 2016 is really sick.

Harry Giles (Winston-Salem, :L), Bam Abedayo (Pinetown), Dennis Smith Jr (Fayetteville) and Sacha Killeya-Jones (Chapel Hill)

3/4 of those are McDonald's Americans, with the exception being Giles and the reason he didn't make it was that he tore his ACL back in November.

Also, think Giles, Bam and Smith Jr are all ranked in the Top 10 by all the major recruiting services.
