The Toronto Raptors have needed a consistent player to fill up the small forward position for a while now, and many attempts to fill that void have not worked out.
The Hedo Turkoglu experiment was horrible for the team, and Hedo was gone after one season. Linas Kleiza is a reliable player off the bench, and the same goes for James Johnson, who brings energy and a defensive presence.
Wilson Chandler has been getting better every year he has played in the NBA.
Last season with the New York Knicks, Chandler was having a great season until he got traded to Denver for Carmelo Anthony. He is a reliable scorer and is a very good hustle player, averaging about six rebounds per game last season.
With Danilo Galinari emerging as one of the top players in the Denver Nuggets rotation, it will be hard for Chandler to produce off the bench. In a place like Toronto where a small forward is needed, Chandler could produce nice stats as well as be a key piece for the future.
Hoopsworld.com has reported that in order to trade for Chandler, the Raptors are willing to trade the likes of Jose Calderon—who is the longest-serving player on the current roster—and key bench player Leandro Barbosa.

The problem with trading Calderon is you are getting rid of a player who has been a part of the franchise for a very long time and is a great passer. Calderon is one of the top players on the team this season and getting rid of him would be unfortunate, but if it is a move that benefits the franchise, it has to be done.

Then comes getting rid of Leandro Barbosa, one of the most effective players off the bench this season.
He is currently averaging 13.4 points per game in 23 minutes, but he has been one of the better scorers and leaders of the team in the absence of Andrea Bargnani.
If Barbosa is to be traded it will be a huge blow, but hopefully someone like Gary Forbes can fill the shooting guard position off the bench.
The Nuggets are having money troubles with the contracts they recently gave to Aaron Afflalo, Danilo Galinari and Nene, so signing Chandler will be hard for them since he will not come cheap. However, the Raptors have said they are willing to spend the money if they can get Chandler in T.O.
Wilson Chandler is currently a restricted free agent, but the way the deal would work is a sign and trade. How this deal turns out and whether it happens is still a question, but it's something that Raptors fans should be happy to see if it all goes down.
With Valanciunas coming in next season, a hopeful trade for Wilson Chandler and a lottery picked in a great draft, the number of steps to the playoffs become fewer if this trade goes down.
