If we are being honest about it, DeVonta Smith is going to establish himself as the best WR in the league within the next 3 years.

And Smith isn’t?
What makes you think that? He seems like a rare breed at WR.

I would bet his skinnyness has humbled him over the years. Never talking, always proving.

But sometimes you can't tell for a few years.

RoK says he’s the most elite WR to have ever played the game, he isn’t now and although he is good and will probably get better I don’t think he will ever be listed among the elite

Looked like you were calling Smith a diva.

Re-reading it, it still looks like you were calling him a diva

PFF is boss of all bosses king of all kings.
PFF is a fine tool for casuals who don’t know what they’re looking at but their shit is flawed as all get out. They don’t know the passing concept that was called. They don’t know what sight conversion the WR was supposed to make vs the coverage. They don’t know if the route was run to the right depth. They don’t know if based on the coverage what the stem and release is supposed to be. But they’re very good at marketing to former high school soccer players who maxed out on the JV squad as a senior and making them think that they’re the end all be all.

I never said they do or don't take into consideration all those things. Including level of opponent, injuries, schemes, etc. If you have an analytical scoring system that does take everything into account and grades play by play I'm 100% open to checking it out. As for now PFF is the best we have and does a very good job in actually coming up with their ranking list. Smith is 16th which is more than fair at this point for a #2 WR option.

I was hoping you were going to reference them marketing to soccer moms as that would've been funny.

My eyes are the best I have. I’ve worked very hard as a student of the game to assess what I’m watching. You could participate without a crutch if you did the same. I don’t bother with arbitrary nonsense with this guy ranks 8 but this other guy ranks 11. You can’t quantify this stuff in that way. It’s all an attempt to shove a square peg in a round hole.

For the record, I’m as critical of the OP as any poster here. I’m not declaring Devonta Smith to be the best WR in the game. In fact, the OP is retarded in my eyes. But also…one hell of a troll. As seen in his ability to create a thread that is now 122 pages over 3 seasons.

What is diva about Devonta? He just wants to win. He just wants to be great. He hasn't displayed any ego above team.

Where has he shown this?
He's just trolling in the most retarded way possible. He already received spectacular answers to his demented take. Must want your thread to be even more epic.

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I want the guys I root for to take the field with an ego thinking they’re the best to have ever done it. It takes that level of confidence to perform at a high level at the highest level in the sport. What becomes problematic is when they put themselves and their individual goals over team goals. I don’t think Devonta fits that bill at all. He entered week 17 his rookie season within reach of a 1,000 yard season and only needed a few yards to get the single season rookie receiving record. He got the one or two catches needed for the rookie record and he accepted that he was immediately sat down to protect him for playoffs in a year where even the most die hard Eagles fan knew it was a blessing to even make the playoffs in a rebuilding year and they weren’t a threat to make a deep run. I’ve actually seen some Eagles who were divas who put himself over the team in Ricky Watters, T.O., etc…. So far, Smith isn’t that guy. He could have been all up in his feels when AJ Brown was acquired and took his WR1 spot. He started the season getting fewer targets early. Never complained. Never became a distraction. He was patient and worked knowing he would get his and he posted a better year with more catches, more yards, and more TDs.

Dude couldn't stay in bounds to score in the SF playoff game. That skill set can be seen on any flag football field throughout the country.

BUT...top 3 for sure

Did he fade or did the schedule end up stacking the better opponents later in the season? If I remember correctly, both 49ers games came later in the season and then of course they had a 3rd matchup in the playoffs.
He faded towards the end and really got after him in the 2nd half of the playoff game.

Aren’t all WR’s divas? Everyone I ever watched was

Jordy Nelson, Steve Largent, Jerry Rice, etc. No I wouldn't say all and not even all the top tier WR's are or were divas. However, there's probably a higher rate of WR divas than any other position. There's just something about knowing you're the most athletic player on the team, dominating a dude one on one on the field and making the most spectacular/exciting plays. It's a huge ego boost.
