The way they did back then - send him to the foul line
True, but at least back then, you had a fighting chance to body him. Now you’d be hard pressed not to foul out half your team trying to contain him with his size down low.

Actually, yeah, I do think it's very possible he just isn't a very good 3 point shooter.

Well that's not true at all.

There were regular seasons where he was Top 40 in 3point %. He was even 11th one season.

You're comparing the game in the 90s to what it is now.

How many bigs in the 90s - Hakeem, Shaq, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Zo, Divac etc shot the 3 ball?

And how many bigs do it now?

You're trying to compare apples to oranges. And doing it by comparing stats from one era to stats form over 20 years ago.

I agree. And Lebron played tougher teams in the Finals....why I think Lebron got to the Finals more, but MJ won more when he was there.
There is a bit more to unpack here than that. Lebron probably had 3 Finals appearances that probably wouldn't have happened in Jordan's era. Lebron probably did play the best three teams but he also lost to the Mavericks who would be weaker than any team that MJ beat.

All in all, I'd have MJ ranked #1 overall, Kareem #2, Lebron #3, prob Wilt #4, prob Magic #5.

Pretty sure they took less shots back then and it played as big a role as the alleged tough play. Also too less 3s.

Alleged?!? The league literally changed what is and isn’t a foul to open up the game to more offense in the NBA.

The same way the NHL has and the NFL has.

If you go to YouTube — you can watch endless videos of how different each sport was 10 years ago, 20 years ago, etc.

NHL had players who were enforcers — They literally were on the team to fight anyone who messed with the star players. Now fighting happens very rarely.

NFL — players used to absolutely lay players out. Now if you hit a QB too high or too low, you get flagged. If you hit a WR too hard or they aren’t ready for it — they will flag you.

NBA — Hand checking, clutching, grabbing and punishing anyone who tried to get to the rim was the norm. The Pistons won multiple only because they did this better than anyone else. Today, you have guys flopping like soccer players and if you look at someone the wrong way you will get fouled.

Today’s sports are so tilted towards offense because they need to do something to get people to continue attending games, when you can now sit home and watch all the games on a 100” 4K smart tv. Offense is what fans want to see.

Don't be mad at me because Jordone wouldn't be able to hack it in today's game...lol

Are you 12 years old?

Because only a 12 year old who hadn’t yet discovered peen pinching would create a stupid thread like this one.

At first we think it was meant to be a troll thread.

But he actually believes this shit. Have a look back where he says DeRozan is almost just as good as Jordan.

The killer instinct wasn’t invented by Nike or for Jordan. They had that trait long before Jordan and long after Jordan. It is used often now because one guy had it (Michael Jordan) and one guy doesn’t (Lebron James).

And if you watched the NBA in 80’s and 90’s and think the physical was ANYTHING like today — you are clueless. It’d be like saying the NHL has the same amount of fights now as they did in the 80’s and 90’s. The violence of sports is slowly going wayward after all the CTE issues now.

And if it is quite easy to watch a clip of only physical plays in the 80’s and 90’s in the NBA. Just look on YouTube. Hell — Just look up Laimbeer and Mahorn. I can think of a dozen times Laimbeer alone clotheslined guys. That is what him and Mahorn did and why Detroit was so good.

LOL @ "Killer Instinct". Because Jordan stuck out his tongue out, pumped his fist, yelled at his teammates, and chucked shots at the end of games...he has a "Killer Instinct' ...don't make me laugh.

Youtube has probably a 20 minute compilation of all the hard fouls in the 90's, most not even on Jordan. There were more hard fouls in the 90's but pretending like they happened constantly throughout the game is trying to create a narrative that just isn't there.

Back in the 90's they had a little thing called illegal defense so Jordan couldn't be double teamed without the ball which resulted in slower rotations if the wanted to trap Jordan. Today's game they can double team you outside the paint any time they want. That is something else you might want to consider when analyzing how Jordan would do against today's defenses.

I did. That’s when I came to the conclusion he hasn’t hit puberty yet.

You're 12 years old because you obviously haven't seen Jordan play to make an educated post in this thread.

Just curious, on the logic of this thread are we to assume that Larry Bird would only be an average 3 point shooter if he played in the modern game? 37% career is good not great by todays standards.

Good point. This might be the next poll to make to see what posters here think of how good Bird would be in today's game.

Offensive players who excel now make a lot of threes, but would people be able to stop him otherwise? I know you address this with saying that the triangle doesn’t work to hide things like it did before, but he can expand his game in other ways. I don’t know if you would use the triangle now anyway. I don’t think he was a product of that.

I already conceded that he wouldn’t necessarily win six championships in the alternate universe, but I would also add that he might not average as much, but he could still be the best player. Who knows?

I think a lot of people misunderstand my position. I'm not saying Jordan would be a scrub or that he wouldn't be a top player but not the best player especially how he was considered in the 90's as the absolute best with no one close. Like I said in my OP, he would be in the conversation as the best occasionally.

Just admit you made this thread under the influence of PCP laced weed. We are happy people here at tHoop and we love a good meltdown, as well as you and you’re alt “teaming” up on MJ, but this is getting a little silly.

it IS a good point. as much as everyone hypes LeClown you'd wonder how he'd stack up if he played during Jordan's time...

He'd dominate in that 90's watered down expansion league with no zone defenses.
