Has anyone argued that Rose shouldn't make it because gambling helped him get 4256 hits?BC gambling contributed to all those hits.

Is gambling on baseball against the rules? No, but there was a comparison to "roid users" which directly impacts on-field performance. Any more questions?

What do those questions have to do with anything?Yes. Is it against the the rules to play baseball with cocaine in your possession? Is the Spitball against the rules?

The topic was gambling vs "roids". Even if you believe that HGH was illegal (arguable at best), it does not compare to gambling. The stated, known consequence of gambling on games you are a part of is a lifetime ban. Not only that, Rose accepted that ban in writing.
This really is an open and shut argument. If you want to say you don't think Bonds, Clemens, etc belong in the Hall, that's fine. You are allowed your opinion. But to equate them with Rose is simply wrong. There is no comparing them.
Which is a BS comparison. One "infraction" had 0 testing and 0 punishment prior to the mid-2000s. One had a clear cut punishment of permanent ineligibility. I still don't understand why anyone would think the two are related. No, but there was a comparison to "roid users" which directly impacts on-field performance. Any more questions?
The HOF is a sham without Bonds/Canseco. I have no problem with Rose being in the HOF (it's a freaking museum to house baseball history), but he should not be allowed reinstatement into baseball and the comparison to steroid users is idiotic.Say what you want, but the HOF is a sham without him. Just like it would without Cobb, McGraw, Speaker, and all the other shitty people who were awesome at playing/managing the game.

Explains a lot.I wasn't comparing anything. But I find it weird you support the known steroid users so strongly. And before you comment, keep in mind that I don't care if it was a rule that was on the books or not.
LOLehhh, not really.

If you dont care about the established rules and the established consequences for actions, than there is no point discussing anything with you.
Wow I was sure I wrote Clemens. And then when I read your response I STILL didn't see "Canseco". I just figured you pegged Clemens as the anti-Christ like many Red Sox fans.ehhh, not really.

Agreed. I don't think anyone has worn 21 since Clemens left. If they have it was for maybe a season or two. Holt would have to give up 26 for Boggs. Will they do a combined retirement for Evans and Manny?I don't really like Clemens, but I acknowledge his greatness. Easily a top 5 pitcher, if not the greatest of all-time. Would be an absolute joke if the Sox don't retire his number (or Boggs or Evans), though Boggs hasn't done much of anything to endear himself to Sox fans. Even Clemens seems to be making some attempt to reconnect with the franchise, at least with the booth appearances.

And Holt can present Boggs with his 26 jersey like Bourque to Esposito. Okay not quite the same.Clemens was the last Red Sox player to wear #21.

I'd love for a dual retirement for Manny/Dewey, but if they had to choose between the two, Evans seems like the better choice IMO, even with Manny's popularity.
