I agree with Mike & Mike. If you are going to let the steroid users in, you have to let Pete Rose in.

How is Tim Raines not in the hall of fame? I know he was second best in the era he played in but that was only because Rickey Henderson was freaking ridiculous. (If you don't believe me just ask him). Still Raines was worthy of the hall no doubt. I think he got penalized for not getting 3,000 hits, which is pretty dumb because the main reason he didn't get there was that he was smart enough to take a walk. Oh yeah, he also had an 85% success rate stealing bases-and he stole a lot of them.

Also, how is Raines out but Eddie Murray in?

If he had 395 more bases empty singles and 395 fewer bases empty walks his on-field contributions would be almost exactly the same, and he'd be considered a shoo-in.

Yep. And another guy his career overlaps pretty closely with is Andre Dawson. And to me, Raines was clearly better than Dawson. (Although you gotta respect "the hawk" for that one year when no one would sign him to a free agent deal and he said "fuck it" and signed a 1 year deal with the Cubs for 500k--then went out and won the MVP).

Also "Rock" was a cool nickname.

I was never a huge fan of the Murray vote, but the voters loved his switch-hitting prowess.

And he was a pretty kick-ass PK for the Lions...

I remember drafting my all time team on this board awhile back and I went out of my way to get Raines. I also drafted Biggio and picked him a couple of rounds after Raines.

IIRC, Raines got on base about as often as Tony Gwynn and he was a much bigger threat once on. Its nuts that he isnt a HOFer

I have no reason to believe Biggio ever used outside of the era in which he played.

But apparently, the Astros are not so sure about his "cleanliness"...

I'm assuming that you know already and were saying this as a joke but, while not a factor in evaluating his career, his work with Sunshine Kids has been exemplary.

Roid users did not break a single baseball rule.

Pete broke the single most important rule to the very integrity of the game.

BC gambling contributed to all those hits. :happyshake:
