And there's an expansion draft, who are your two SP taken? You have to take on their contracts, and you have a large payroll because those Charlotteans love their baseball.

I take Clayton Kershaw and Noah Syndergaard. You get the best SP in baseball who will also be a good influence on the new team, and you get a guy who isn't eligible for free agency until 2021 who is already one of the best pitchers in baseball.

No way either of those guys are available in an expansion draft.

When Florida and Colorado came into the league, the number of saves each team got was around 20. Depending on which way the Mets wanted to go Thor could be available.

I actually like to look at the Giants org each year and try to determine who they would protect if there were an expansion draft (based on the rules of the '97 draft)...

from Wiki...
  • For the first round, 15 players from the rosters of their entire organization—both their 40-man roster, plus all minor league affiliates.[4]
  • Each team could add three more players to its protected list after each round.[4]
  • In addition to the above, players chosen in the 1996 and 1997 amateur drafts were automatically protected, plus players who were 18 or younger when signed in 1995.
  • Players who were free agents after the end of the 1997 season need not be protected.
Can you think of 15 Mets that would be protected ahead of Thor? I couldnt imagine there being more than a handful. I am far from intimately familiar with the Mets system, but at a glance, I only see 4 other AUTOMATIC protects (I am positive there are others)...

Harvey
Wright
DeGrom
Conforto

Cespedes was signed as a FA, so he would not need to be protected. No way would Thor be left unprotected.

I do not know how deep their MiLB goes either, but what I was getting at with the Mets is. You have Harvey, DeGrom, Thor, Metz, and another one or two pitchers on the way. How many of them do you protect and which ones? You know that in the next few years you are losing a couple of those pitchers to FA, so why protect them all. I personally would protect Thor and DeGrom, but you never know with some of these GMs.

I think I have a touch of dyslexia or something but when I first glanced at this thread I thought it said "If Chatroulette creates a team" . I have to say I almost didn't open it because I wasn't sure what I might find, but I guess it's like a train wreck--ya gotta look. But to answer the question--I'd take Trout and Harper. Fuck pitching and if I can't afford the contracts I shouldn't be buying a team.

As long as they don't have to set foot anywhere near the dilapidated stadium that the Sounds play in.

I'd choose Kershaw and Darvish when healthy.

Particularly the Mets.
