You’re nuts.
Dont confuse me mis reading your babble with dodging a question.

From what I understand, he still was an asset.
Was waiting for our resident cap expert to confirm or deny.

Or, @bksballer89 or @Heatles84 ,

Wasnt it being said that Whiteside opting out didnt create addition cap space?

Botton line, regardless, he wasnt opting out, and I along with every Heat fan here or that I know, was happy we signed him.

He played fine for the majority of the last few years.
It is what it is.
Oh no doubt he wasn't opting out as he knows he's not close to what Miami has to pay him.

But seems obvious to me if a team is better off if you opt out of your deal you are not an asset.

Yep. It's a wonder she's put up w/ me for nearly 28 years. What I don't get though is how she tries to blame me for our sons smartassery. Like I had anything to do w/ it!
shouldn't matter......if my son or daughter does something that he clearly would have gotten from his mother (late, procrastinate, make a mess, etc) it wouldn't stop her from blaming me.

Wouldnt that depend on whether or not the opt out created salary cap space?

sure....but we were talking about the Heat who still would be well over the cap.

So, to be clear, you are saying it worked out better for the Heat that he didn’t opt out?

Im still not sure.

“Although they would make roughly $46 million combined next season if they opt-in to stay with the Miami Heat, with Dragic at about $19 million and Whiteside at $27 million, the team would only get to about $20 million in cap space if both opted out. This is due to current contracts, a more than likely buyout of Ryan Anderson‘s contract at around $15 million, and them signing their future first rounder from this upcoming draft, according to Winderman”.

So, reading this, Its looking like it worked out fine.

No. My thought is either it didn't matter or they'd have been better off if he opted out.

No doubt it worked out fine. And I'd have made the deal. You have me confused with wiggy who doesn't like Butler. I like Butler quite a bit. My only contention was HW was not an asset to get it done.

In hindsight, if he opts out, there still isnt room for Butler, which means they prob would have had to move Dragic, or Jones Jr/Kelly O combo.

If thats the case. Better off he didn’t.
Which means we ( the Heat) in essence cleared the space moving Whiteside, so to me, thats an asset.
If you think not, fine.

1. Are you on crack? Absolutely would have been better if he opted out

2. I will GLADLY accept your bet on Whiteside but i am not betting my whole roll on something that could be effected by injury etc.

1 month avatar bet and $4,000 Vcash on who gets more money NEXT offseason- Whiteside or Thompson- take it or leave it.

Why? If him opting out didnt create cap space? Means we’d have have lost other players like Dragic, Jones Jr, or Kelly 0, right?

As far as bet, what if contracts are different lengths?
We talking base salary, next season?

And if either has major injury like KD, then im cool saying bet should be cancelled.

1. Cap space was not the worry- it was getting below the tax apron that mattered. Whiteside opting out would have gotten the Heat well below the tax apron and the hard-cap line.

i mean- its a matter of common sense as well. If getting rid of basically half of Whiteside's contract in Harkless was enough, then of course getting rid of his whole contract was MORE than enough.

Again- in order to do the sign and trade you did not need cap space- you needed to get below the hard-cap line- and Whiteside opting out would have gotten you WELL below that line, and even give you room to take on the extra 3.5M in salary that OKC requires to get under the tax line which is probably a huge reason the CP3 deal has not occured yet. Glad to have educated you.

2. Most money- does not matter years or average salary- whoever gets the most cash.

Thats as subjective as injury.
Makes no sense.
Example. One is offered 2 yr 30 M, other is offered 3 yr, 32M. You are saying the 3/32 wins?

Thats crazy.

As far as Whiteside, Im not sure and it doesnt matter, but for sure some local talk was that it didnt matter, and I think I posted something the other day that said even if both Dragic/Whiteside had opted out, they would have only had 20M to play with.

Why is that crazy? I just think its highly unlikely any team has any trust to give Whiteside anything resembling a long term deal.

they were likely talking about cap space

cap space is different than what happened with the sign and trade

sign and trades barely ever happen because it hard caps a team- which is the tax apron which i think is maybe likd 4 million over the tax line if i am noit mistaken

the salary cap is one thing and the luxury tax line is a completely different thing. They needed to get near the luxury tax line- they had little to no hope of ever creating cap space.

not that i would expect most people to know how that works---- but then again- i am not most people and its why i know the most about the CBA and how it works on this site.

You dont think higher annual average salary makes a difference?

Its all that should matter.

And correct, you are def not most people.

I can honestly say I haven’t 5 minutes studying cap rules, because I dont need too.
Heat doesn’t need me for that.

If I needed to know, I could master it pretty quickly.
