Andy Martino of SNY.tv is hearing that the Giants "have a shot" at landing free agent outfielder Bryce Harper.
Martino adds that the Phillies "have a tough road to get it done" unless they're willing to up their offer. This report could be some form of posturing on the part of Harper's agent, Scott Boras, but the competition certainly remains wide open at this point for the 26-year-old superstar. He'll be looking to top the 10-year, $300 million agreement that Manny Machado has reportedly reached with the Padres.

I'd say the first A-Rod contract worked out pretty well, he was worth over 50 WAR from 2001-07. Also Miggy's extension in 2008.
