Machado did have two or three knee surgeries by age 22. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Yeah, going from 20 steals at age 22 to zero steals at age 23 was not exactly an inspiring development. His leg speed seems to be disappearing prematurely and it will affect his defense sooner rather than later.

Honestly I wouldn't give 10 years to any player in baseball not even Bryce Harper, except for maybe Stanton when he was primed with the Marlins. meanwhile teams like the Rays and A's are winning 90-95 games a year with players on minimum wage.

But for me to sign a player to that length and all that money he would need to be like 25 years old 50 homers, 140 RBIs, never gets hurt, bats .320 and a gold glove
I bet you hated when Felix Hernandez agreed to a five-year, $135.5 million contract extension?

Whoever signs him, take a lesson from the Texas Morons....errr….Rangers when they signed ARod.

Make sure you can still afford to put a team around him or you will have paid all that money to one guy to keep you in the cellar the entire time he is on your team.

Didn't necessarily hate it, but I thought the timing was unnecessary. Felix had never shown any desire to leave. He didn't need to be extended a full two years before his existing contract was due to expire. If they had waited even one year longer, they would have caught the declining peripherals and maybe re-thought the number of years and/or dollar value of the extension.

Is this the old 'my team has no chance to sign him so I'll make it seem as if we don't need/ want him?'

No, if this were five years ago, my team would have been right in the thick of the contenders to sign him and probably would have signed him. This is more of a 'I don't know of any 10-year contract given to a player that has worked out well for the team signing them' kind of thing. Even most of the 7-year contracts have burned the team more times than the team has benefitted from the investment.

I wouldn't give a 10/$300 to Harper either. The one positive I will say about Harper, however is that he has a far less chance than Muchado of coping an attitude and/or dogging it for any perceived reason. He doesn't have that same sense of indifference that Muchado has. If Harper gets hard, it's because he is trying too hard, which something you will never have to worry about with Muchado

So he reminds you of dudes with the last name Ramirez?

The only thing that reminds me of Manny Ramirez is the baggy uniform and that anti johnny hustle attitude. Manny Ramirez was a way better hitter. Machado reminds me a lot more of Hanley.

I was just giving you shit. If the Sox sign Machado, I sure hope he ends up being way better than Hanley.

Why would I have hated it? The contract is over around the time he peaked imagine signing him to 8 years and we have to carry around his weight for 3 more years

Okay, but I would have let him walk (traded him). Felix is just like Ichiro, the Mariners should have traded them years ago.

probably I think the organization didn't want to build a track record of just trading away star players all the time especially ones willing to stay its hard for us to sign free agents so trading away all stars that want to be here would be a tough look I think

Machado's father was quoted as confirming there is a 3rd, "mystery team" involved in negotiations. Apparently this mystery team has the best offer on the table, but it's not a destination Machado had considered.

That rules out pretty much every big market team.

My guess is Miami.
