I don't really want to go back through the forum the entire season, but I've been consistent saying the Niners didn't have enough talent to have a REALISTIC chance of winning a SB, and they didn't. That was a very unpopular opinion. And talent means all 53 players, so depth comes into play.
And the Niners got a lot more good luck this season than bad luck (like having the tie breaker to have home field advantage against the Saints & not having a lot of injuries).
The posts about Franklin from the Disney forum are gone, so you'll just have to take my word for it
They had a REALISTIC chance of winning and a REALISTIC chance of losing and obviously a REALISTIC chance of not getting there. Tebow did not have a realistic chance and to me, neither did Atlanta, so I'm not just saying "any given Sunday". Atlanta to me is like Golden State or Sacremento in the NBA, every once in a while they can produce something, but I've never felt they had a chance.
I accept that you were right that we wouldn't get there. But this ipso facto logic is ridiculously simplistic. There isn't just one formula of winning and we could have done it, realistically speaking. Hindsight does not give you any credit for being right about chance. It just validates that it wasn't a lock. If we were blown out or Alex threw an int to finish the game, I'd have likely agreed. If he did what he was asked not to do, then he'd have been more incapable. If we couldn't get motivated for the game, it wouldn't have been realistic. We should have been there and New England has shown that they are beatable. It is realistic that we couldn't win the SB year in and year out without making adjustments and roster additions every season.
Plus, being realistic is one thing, but you have been gloating. My "objective" observation is that you have brought this up many times in an I was right sense rather than I am objective sense. Be realistic for future and current opinions, pointing out over and over that you predicted this, is gloating. No one truly is objective through and through, though not being a homer nor hater is possible. Everyone has their biases. But that aside, stop saying you were the only one, when not everyone thought we'd win, like imac said.
