I don't really want to go back through the forum the entire season, but I've been consistent saying the Niners didn't have enough talent to have a REALISTIC chance of winning a SB, and they didn't. That was a very unpopular opinion. And talent means all 53 players, so depth comes into play.

And the Niners got a lot more good luck this season than bad luck (like having the tie breaker to have home field advantage against the Saints & not having a lot of injuries).

The posts about Franklin from the Disney forum are gone, so you'll just have to take my word for it

They had a REALISTIC chance of winning and a REALISTIC chance of losing and obviously a REALISTIC chance of not getting there. Tebow did not have a realistic chance and to me, neither did Atlanta, so I'm not just saying "any given Sunday". Atlanta to me is like Golden State or Sacremento in the NBA, every once in a while they can produce something, but I've never felt they had a chance.

I accept that you were right that we wouldn't get there. But this ipso facto logic is ridiculously simplistic. There isn't just one formula of winning and we could have done it, realistically speaking. Hindsight does not give you any credit for being right about chance. It just validates that it wasn't a lock. If we were blown out or Alex threw an int to finish the game, I'd have likely agreed. If he did what he was asked not to do, then he'd have been more incapable. If we couldn't get motivated for the game, it wouldn't have been realistic. We should have been there and New England has shown that they are beatable. It is realistic that we couldn't win the SB year in and year out without making adjustments and roster additions every season.

Plus, being realistic is one thing, but you have been gloating. My "objective" observation is that you have brought this up many times in an I was right sense rather than I am objective sense. Be realistic for future and current opinions, pointing out over and over that you predicted this, is gloating. No one truly is objective through and through, though not being a homer nor hater is possible. Everyone has their biases. But that aside, stop saying you were the only one, when not everyone thought we'd win, like imac said.

with the cap, no team is gonna have a complete team. i dont think we need a major overhaul, especially on d which is one of the strongest d's over the past 30 years.

a couple offensive linemen, a couple recievers and a tight end. we'll have an excellent offense that can execute what harbaugh wants to do. we won't be breaking records like our past offenses and i doubt we'd top even garcia led niners offenses. we can become more efficient and with our d that is more than enough.

not sure if we can get 5 upgrades in the offseason, but it's possible we get 3-4.

yep, unless a team gets real lucky, you can't be solid at every single thing. you hope to have a quality D, enough offense, and a mistake free ST's. obviously, we're short on offense

but on offense, we can get from "below average" to "average" by adding quality WR's. don't see us being "excellent", but maybe just enough to win it all?

No one will be stupid, but I hope some players love the team enough to try and structure there deals to be cap friendly, as in deferring the big year pay (as long as the duration and guaranteed money is the same).

well we would be excellent if we upgraded 5 positions like i said. center and another position either guard or tackle. davis could move to guard. a couple wr's and a te would give us lots of options in the passing game. colston, lloyd, vernon and say a health john carlson would be tough to stop.

i don't see it happening, but if we draft glenn and jones our line could be pretty good next year.

several teams would be excellent if they could upgrade five positions?

if we took this team and added five, yeah we'd be upgraded. but we can't just start with what we have now. there's quite a few Free Agents and not all will return. so we'll first have to replace a few of these spots before we can upgrade.

we only have so many draft picks and on top of that, they're all the 30th of each round. for this coming year we shouldn't expect THAT much upgrade via the draft.

Why should the worst team get the first pick and the good teams who earned their way lose out. Injure yourself and you're entitled to the first pick, while we break our back for the 30th pick? Freaking liberals! (Sarcasm... and oh yeah, sarcasm)

we'd do well just to 'maintain' this team through free agency, cause don't see us re-signing everyone back. hopefully, the new FA's can make up the value we'll lose?

Iguana - our offense had better be improved with upgrades at two offensive line spots, two WR's, and a TE, but how do we do it THIS off-season?

we can't focus all our free agency and draft picks to these five spots. even 3-4 of these upgrades might be tough?

cause we can't forget about defense.

i just posted how it is done. it really depends on how the draft goes. if we end up with konz we obviously won't be able to get 2 upgrades on the offensive line, but 4 of 5 would still be a big upgrade.

so we're gonna upgrade 3-4 spots via the draft? we're picking 30th in each round and will be good to get immediate contribution from our 2nd rounder.

are you expecting immediate contribution from rounds 3 and 4 too? if so, isn't this overly optimistic?

1-2 from the draft, but in the situation i gave 2 that came from the draft. it's right there in my post...

yeah you first said five positions from the draft, then 3-4. but 3-4 is still higher than the now 1-2?

say its 1-2 from the draft, then you ARE expecting the 30th pick of round 2 to upgrade a spot. to me this is overly optimistic - a possibility - but overly optimistic.

its a timing question, not whether he'll upgrade a spot. my question is will the 30th pick of round 2 upgrade a spot THIS season? its possible but what are the odds?

or did i just get this train of thought wrong? if so, then my bad.

I think we could pretty clearly upgrade a starting WR spot with a second round pick. I also think we could upgrade at RG with a second round pick.

It also depends on free agency. If we lose Rogers, then a second round CB could definitely be an upgrade at nickel back (over Brock).

We could also upgrade at FS over what's on the roster at the time if we lose Goldson and Smith in FA.

The last two admittedly coming with an asterisk as they're dependent on FA and the draft pick would likely downgrade from Goldson and Rogers/Culliver (as the nickel).

i hope we don't force picks. i'd rather trade out of the 2nd instead of forcing a pick

what the fuck are u talking about

two offensive linemen from the draft. glenn and jones. i think jones would be able to start from day 1 and he might last until the 3rd

three from free agency. it was right there in my post
