I really really do. They say change is good. As for changing the rules in the game I love.... Fuck them. They took the perfect game and tried to give it plastic surgery. The real face of the game is gone. All I have left are my memories and old footage of that face. Oh yeah but we have kale and bobble heads. I want to barf.

I really miss the game.

Game says it doesn't miss you so much.

Give Ty Cobb a call. Maybe he can empathize with you.

Pete Rose barrels over Ray Fosse

The hypocrisy of MLB 2011 as FOX promotes Pete Rose running into Ray Fosse as the best play in All Star history. They don't want Rose in the game but they use his likeness all the time in promoting the game.

Hypocrisy

God help us.

Anyone ask Ray Fosse what he thought of that play? It effectively ended a very promising career.

They should "of" banned Rose just for that play. Not to speak "have" what he did to single-handedly attempt to ruin the integrity of the game in his own selfishly maniacal way.

Rose had no where to go. Fosse was up the line on the path. Where was Rose supposed to go? They voted it one of the best plays in All Star history. I feel bad for Fosse but it's part of the game and he blocked the plate.

So you wanted Rose banned for making a legit play in baseball. You say "ruin the integrity of the game". Wow how old are you? He made a split second decision and had no where to go. I wish everything in life was safe for people but there are unfortunate circumstances and situations that happen. Fosse was in one of those situations and got hurt. No one wants injuries to happen but to take away the natural instincts of players in the game takes away the natural flow and heart of the game. We can't have 5 minute replay calls and umpires standing around with their fingers in their ears. The natural flow has been disrupted and the game is suffering for that.

As for Rose yes he made a big mistake but for baseball to ban him and then use him as a example of being a hard nosed great player stinks of hypocrisy . They used his play in the All Star game as a example of great play in the game. You can't have both. If they want Rose out and keep him out especially the HOF why do they use him in promotions of the game. Do you understand my point now? You can't ban someone and then also glorify them. Steroid users are welcomed back but a man with a legit illness (Gambling Addiction) is shunned . Rose was wrong and paid for it. Why is our society so cold not to lift a man back up and forgive him. The man has a illness . Does anyone understand that?

It's hard for me because I can see all of this and it bothers me. Just give the man some peace and forgive him. Don't forget what happened but what is wrong with forgiveness. Some say let him in the HOF after he dies and that might be the sickest thing I have heard. He earned his way in as a player. If we refuse to recognize the good things in man and celebrate his accomplishments and not forgive where are we as a society?

Good point, how does Fox hyping the Rose career-ending mutilation in an exhibition game make MLB hypocrites for keeping him out of the game for his direct attack on the integrity of the game?

Blame Fox if you want, but I see no contradiction re: MLB's ban on Rose.

BoB, if you follow international soccer at all (we all got a big dose recently) you'll notice that gambling syndicates have pretty much taken over the sport in many countries. The no tolerance policy exemplified by Rose is working...no one dares cross that line. 'Forgiving' him would not help things. Letting him in the hall after he's dead seems a fair compromise (they gotta let Shoeless Joe in first).

Rose has a illness. Gambling Addiction is a illness. So what now we don't forgive people with illnesses. I know Rose really messed up but the power of Gambling Addiction illness is considered now to be on a level of drug addiction. You have to study the illness to understand it more.

Rose was brought back and celebrated at a All Star Game run by MLB 1999 for the All Century Team.

Oh BULL SHIT it's an illness. It's called "making bad choices in life". Spare me the "it's not my fault" syndrome.

People need to be responsible for their own actions.

I get that, I do. But so is, say, schizophrenia or manic depression, and if someone has those illnesses and then walks up to the batter's box and pulls out a gun and kills the entire infield before killing himself...I don't want that guy in the hall either. You could even argue that what Rose did is 'worse' vis a vis the very foundation of the game.

Gambling ruins the game, full stop. The minute you don't think the game you are watching is 2 teams trying to win, with clean officiating, you have pro wrestling.

Should we not allow players diagnosed with the illness of GA to play at all? How about if a player is in mid career and then receives that 'diagnosis'? Do we test for GA like we do for PEDs now?

This is really a better way to say it. GA might be an 'illness' but it's an illness of behavior, and that behavior literally (yes) destroys the foundation of any sport.

Rose didn't help by covering it all up so angrily either. He might have different treatment if he'd gone full admission and apology when he got caught. As an aside, this might have helped Clemens and Bonds in their HOF quests.

Here's an even better way to say it:

1 Corinthians 10:13 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

So I guess you are ready to close or kick out players in the HOF because of all the racists ,gamblers, alcoholics, steroid users, drug abusers and other problems men had and were inducted anyway.

I see a lot of Hypocrisy going on.

I hear you guys on some of this stuff but the game is suffering right now on the flow and the new rule changes and however you feel on Rose is a personal opinion.

Peace.

I realize Rose messed up as a manager but as a player he earned his way in. I don't see why he can't go into the HOF with his mistake as a manager listed on the plaque.

The debate goes on.

Still these new rules which was my original thread need to be tweaked and the flow of the game returned.

I agree the home plate collision rule needs work, and incidents like Wednesday's will help the guys in charge take a look I'm sure.

As far as flow of the game, they can try to improve that too, but I think replays and the breaks they cause are here to stay. Games change over time. Managers arguing and yelling and throwing bases (did that EVER once actually get an umpire to change a call?) interrupt the flow of the game too. Sure they can be fun, but they interrupt just like replay checks. And at least with replay checks the umpires might actually decide they were wrong and reverse themselves. Yelling managers never ever got them to do that.

And yes Rose the player should be in the Hall somewhere, sometime. After he's dead feels right to me...devastating punishment to deter future offenders, but the historical record eventually recognizing him and his 4000+ hits.

He has NOT paid for it.

You continue to state that he has paid for it and he should be forgiven. But that is flat out false. The "price" he has to "pay" is a lifetime ban. He is not done paying that price yet.

If you sell your house for 500K, but someone stops paying you after he has only paid 300K of it, do you tell him it is OK, he has paid what he agreed to pay you for the house? No. You tell him to continue paying, BECAUSE HE HAS NOT PAID THE PRICE YET!.

Peace.
