Beard, check, flannel, check, glasses, check! I had a kale smoothie for lunch and am currently listening to The Black Keys (and pretending like I think their music is "brilliant.") I guess the answer is YES! :noidea:

I guess it depends on how one "rates" him. I'd say he's one of the best offensive shortstops of all time with a defensive range that was better than many, but not most coat racks toward the end of his career.

Does he deserve to make it to the HOF?? Yes
Is he one of the best SS of all time?? Yes
Is he the Best SS of all time?? No
Is he overhyped?? yes
So, you voted yes??

A legit HOFer can still be "over-rated".

Which has literally nothing to do with the question. But nice troll attempt anyway. Amateurish, but nice.

I think it does. I try keep myself very objective and look at players for what they've done as opposed to if I like/dislike them or the team they play for. I think trying to establish your potential bias as it relates to these two players being overrated is very much germane to the discussion.

I don't dislike Derek Jeter in the least and it really puzzles me when criticizing an athlete for his performance how the simple-minded start shouting about "why do you hate this guy?"

He's absurdly overrated because he played for the Yankees. Stick him on virtually any other team and that's less true to varying degrees. A career in Kansas City and he goes from megastar to "a solid ballplayer". How can this be denied?

His career numbers, for starters.

Most seem to agree that he's one of the top SS's (ten at least) of all time, certainly an HOFer and likely on the first ballot. How many "solid ballplayers" get those accolades?

What do you have that says he isn't one of the best SS's of all times, that he shouldn't be an HOFer?

So now we're changing the debate? My only point is that he's wildly overrated, nothing more.

I think @SlinkyRedfoot 2.0 could help make an interesting MLB Daily thread this season if he's a fan of Jetes.

I wonder if he has those numbers if he doesn't spend his entire career surrounded by other top players, does he get 3,400 hits if he spends his entire career with the Pirates? Not a chance.

Is he overrated? Yes. He is looked at like a God in parts of NYC, He was a decent hitter who struck out way to much and wasn't very good defensively. With that said he does belong in the hall.
