After several moths of looking my wife and I finally decided to build a house and officially bought one last weekend while on a layover in Charlotte. :L Good timing as my man cave should be done and up and running by football season. However we are now about $100,000 over our initial spending goal. So if any of you want to start up a go fund me page I won't stop you.

Grats

Just a bit of experienced advice.

Act 'House Poor' for the first couple of years. The only thing you should be 'financing' brand new are a couch and a mattress. The reason is that nobody wants cum stained shit that someone else has been bumping uglies on. Anything else should be saved for or bought with cash second hand. Craig's List, garage sales, friends, family, etc...

It's easy to go deep into unsecured debt (credit cards, personal loans) that will take you 5-10 years to pay off. In other words be disciplined now or be forced to discipline yourself later anyway.

Good luck, are you moving out of a house into your new place, or are you in an apartment now? The reason I ask is that I'm in process of moving from first (smaller) house to second larger house. We (wife and two kids) had been in older house for 10+ years and you accumulate a lot of crap and I'm really tired of moving. We had a 5 week window, with last two weeks upon us, a bit stressful.

We sold our old house fairly quickly last fall so we moved into a condo until we could take the time to really find a place we loved. We also sold off a lot of our stuff with the last house so we will probably be hanging out in lawn chairs in the living room until we buy furniture.
