There is no such thing as a "shut down" corner in today's NFL.

The term is a joke. Every cb in NFL can get beat.

Prime Time was the last true shutdown cb.

Primte time got beat as well. Shut down corner doesn't mean you never give up a pass.

no, its not.

Yes it is. He is tasked with one side of the field because that is what their defense wants him to do.

If you want to argue that he wouldn't be a great slot corner, fine. That argument can be made. But if you don't think he can cover the right side, then you are simply wrong.

Their entire defense is predicated on him shutting down an entire quadrant of the field. That's one of the reasons they play 2 formations with very little blitzing.

This is a myth.

Get back to us when he plays both sides or even covers a slot receiver.

Why didn't Carroll move him over to cover Edelman in the SB? Everyone on the planet could see that Julian was killing it, why wouldn't you move your best guy over to him?

Belichick made an adjustment when it was apparent that the Seahawks rookie was too big for the CB he originally assigned to him and the replacement shut him down.

Prime Time is still arguably the greatest cover corner of all time, at least modern era.

But shutdown corner does not mean you never give up a pass. That is an absurd standard that no defender could achieve.

And to my point.

There is no such thing as a shutdown corner.

The closest was PT

deion was the first guy i ever saw that made a QB STOP looking in his direction, let alone throw. guys still look at, and throw to, sherman.

deion was a ballerina trying to tackle. sherman can at least play tough.

Well that and the fact that he only had 2 seasons of playing defensive back under his belt. But I'm sure the problem was that he couldn't cover the right side.

Seriously some of the things people will say to defend an argument.

I have no problem with the term shut down. A corner that "shuts down" a receiver for 3 catches and 15 yards is indeed shutting down that receiver.

So what?

Tell you what. Show me a single scouting report in which they said that Sherman's inability to play on the right was a problem and I will openly concede your point.

Here are some reports you should not look at that though..

Richard Sherman 2011 NFL Draft Profile - ESPN

or here...

WalterFootball.com: 2011 NFL Draft: Cornerback Rankings

or here...

2011 Cornerback Scouting Reports - Draft Insider

or this video in which about 40% of plays highlighted were on the right side...
