That deal sucks vs Howard's. At $18 mill/yr Pence, 31 next April, homers at a 24.9 ab/hr pace. When Howard signed for 5 yr $25 mill/yr in 2011 at 32, his rate was 13 ab/hr, twice that of Pence.

I would much, much, much rather have Pence's contract than Howard's. There's more to baseball than home runs. Sure, Ryan Howard is a better player when looking at their careers, but from 2012-2018 Pence has been, is, and will be a better player.
