We've already determined that the Seahawks will have about 18-19 million of cap space in 2015 after taking into account the dead cap space and the allotted cap for the draft.

We have 2 incredibly important players (Wilson and Wagner) that can be extended and one pivotal player whose contract is up in Maxwell.

2016 we have Mebane, Okung, Miller, and Irvin up...but we only have 83 million in contracts.

So how can we work in Suh? Here are the different scenarios that I have come up with

1) We extend both Russell and Wagner and let Maxwell go
- In this scenario the Seahawks will have to be very creative with how all 3 contracts (Russell, Wagner, Suh) are structured. Somehow all 3 would have to take a lower cap hit for 2015 and have it all loaded for 2016, 2017, and beyond.

2) We extend Russell, but don't extend Wagner and let Maxwell go
- Sign Russell to a cap friendly deal that gives us room to maneuver in 2015. Be patient with Wagner and extend him next off season or just franchise him. This will allow us a lot more cap space to try to fit in Suh this year. Now...Suh will STILL have to take some sort of a pay cut and do a deal that is more friendly for 2015. But in this scenario Suh would be able to get 10-12 million.

The two top DTs currently get paid 14.5 and 16 million respectively. Suh will command at least that. For 2016 we would definitely be able to afford Suh. If we assume that the cap will continue to go up then by 2016 the NFL's cap should be around 148-150 million. That leaves the Seahawks approximately 65-70 million in cap space.

Let's say 25 of that will go to Russell (because we backload his contract for a more friendly 2015 cap), 13 of that goes to Wagner, and 15 goes to Suh. That's 53 mil so it leaves us about 12-17 mil left to resign Okung, Mebane, Irvin, and Marshawn.

Okung - Worth about 7-8 mil
Mebane - Becomes expendable if we have Suh and Hill
Marshawn - Will be 30 by 2016...do we still pay him?
Irvin - We'll see how he develops, but we are deep at LB

So yes signing Suh would mean we lose Maxwell and likely mean we have to part with two of the following Okung, Irvin, Marshawn, or Mebane.

Is he worth it to you guys?

Wow...interesting proposition. Did you factor in cost of signing draft picks into your math? IIRC thats about $5M a year, assuming we keep drafting late.

In a Madden universe, absolutely. Kid is a monster DT.

He's also a penalty magnet, a thug, and would it surprise anyone if he appeared in the police blotter any day now?

Pass. Cool thought experiment, but pass all the same.

Teams should honestly just forfeit to you guys if you land Suh.

It wouldn't even be fun to watch at that point.

I actually think we can improve our pass rush for next season without making any major, expensive moves just by getting our injured players from this year back and finding some new pieces via the draft. Having said that, I don't know if adding Suh would necessarily be worth the presumed sacrifices the Hawks would have to make to make it happen. He might be from the PNW, but he's also the best DT on the market and arguably the best DT in the league, so he's not going to be cheap either way and he does have that history of dirty play to consider. With the league watching him closely because of that history, he's one incident away from a suspension. Do we want to deal with all that? Who knows.

Seattle Seahawks 2015 Salary Cap Table | Spotrac

Has the cap pool for the draft at 4.4m

They have us at 124.4m before we cut anyone which will almost certainly happen.

Miller is probably going to be cut and wouldn't be surprised if Mebain is gone if he won't restructure. His 5.7m is mostly clear. Only 200k against the cap if he's gone. So suh for mebain wouldn't cost you nearly as much as keeping them both.

He is still young so maybe we luck out and he signs a two year friendly deal that allows him a shot at a ring or two. Not sure what or who it will take (getting cut) to get him, but like someone mentioned above, this will put this defense in the all world level. Winning changes things sometimes, and maybe he can resist the dumb shit moves on the field when we are chasing another title. Signing Suh should put a huge smile on the faces of all 12's after what we had to endure last Sunday, hope for a miracle on this one.

You put Suh on that front line and you have one of the best front 7's of all time.

With Irvin also crashing in on some plays? QB's would be running scared.

Won't happen though. Pipe dream.

Suh would look great in a Seahawks uniform, but it isn't going to happen. To expensive IMO and I don't trust him to be the same player after he signs with another team and be in a different system.

If he somehow is able to play for the home town team that he is clearly a fan of, and be part of a legendary defense........dude will play. Why, because he would be coming here on a HUGE discount. You don't play at a discount because you're not hungry to win.

Maybe he pulls a darelle Revis and do a 1 year deal? looking at our interior D I dont think we have a lot there kevin williams will probably retire so all we have is mcdaniel, mebane and hill. Two of those guys are coming off of tough injuries and are heading into their 30s. If the deal is right I wouldnt mind letting mebane and miller go to get cap to sign suh.

now to play devils advocate. Suh is a HUGE personality and the last high profile guy we had that was like that was percy harvin and we know how that ended up. I dont know if he has any history of locker room dramas but if he does bring that to this team this will be a huge disaster.

Scew that. He's a loose cannon and Hill really started coming on late in the season. WR's the #1 hole to fill so I'd be much more interested in going after Fitzgerald if he's looking for a 1 year shot at the title sort of deal. I just don't see how the Cards can justify keeping him unless he's willing to restructure and he really likes Wilson.
