How much cap room are we projected to have?

I have heard everything between 20 and 42 million.

CBS Sportsline is reporting we have 20 million in cap room:
NFL salary caps: Browns in great shape, Cowboys (again) are not - CBSSports.com

I read another website that states we have 24 million.

Does anyone have the actual answer? Also, how much room can be created with making obvious cuts?

Bottom line is that we need at least 40 million to really make any type of headway with the current mess. I think alot of the guys are just speculating because we should have alot more than 20 to 24 million. I could be wrong however. Hopefully, the appropriate cuts are made and we get so much needed room.

Right now we have about $24 million in cap space. We can make cuts to make more room. But remember for every cut we make, we add another position we need to fill. So realistically you can think we will have around $30-36 million in spending space after cuts, reworks and extensions. The only way we get to $40 million is to cut a bunch of guys we would then have to replace. I am of the mindset that guys like Carriker, Bowen, and most of the O-line will make it into camp and not be cut unless some one else we either sign or draft beats them out. Making massive cuts to free cap space but creating holes that then need to be filled is asinine and an emotional reactionary plan of action.

I almost think we can't afford Orakpo. If he wants 10 million a year, a third of the cap room is gone.

I agree that we can't cut the entire team to get more room. Hopefully, the players we cut can be replaced with draft picks. We do have a lot of dead weight on the team. Allen is a cap master and will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat yet again for this to work.

Not quite. We are at $26 million and some change. This number already takes into account Morgans contract voiding. It also takes into account Fletcher and merriweathers contracts voiding as well. Now we do have some players that will get releases and a couple of others I expect to get renegotiated if cap space becomes an issue. As for Rak and his cap figure, I fully expect him to get a deal that averages $10 million a year. But what it averages, and what it costs us against the cap over the next two years will be vastly different. IF we give him a 5 year deal that averages $10 million a year, I dont expect year one to cost any more than $5 million against the cap, years 4-5 will be backloaded with built in renegotiation triggers. Same goes for Riley and the deal we likely give him. I think he gets a deal that averages the umber he wants, but doesnt hit the books for more than 3-5 million this year or next year. I expect them to bring in competition for every spot on the line and this list of players are all at risk to be June 1st cuts...

Bowen
Carriker
Chester
Montgomery
Polumbus
Lichtensteiger

Rocca will likely be cut outright
