Again you're saying the same things about Lonzo that you were saying about Ingram after his rookie season.

Ingram, according to you was a scrub not worthy of the #2 pick.

So what changed?
A. trust ME i was not the only one saying that about Ingram

B. I freely admit he had a helluva sopohmore year that I did not expect- though it was on a bad team in a lot of garbage time- the jury is CERTAINLY still out whether he is worthy of a #2 overall pick

Most people give a player more than one season before calling him a disappointment

And who would you have picked with #2 in the 2016 draft?

Yeah, right now, at this moment in time, if the report that they could have had him for the #2 pick is true, it looks like they probably should have done the trade.

The problem is, we won't know whether they really should have done the trade for at least 3-5 more years.

If Ball hits the "Jason Kidd ceiling" or close to it that folks say is his top end and/or they get a better (Kawhi or Klay) or equal (Butler) player, then they will have been smart to not make the deal.

I don't know.

Even if Ball lives up to his absolute ceiling, George is a better fit playing with LeBron and Ingram. That is obvious and undeniable.

The real issue is whether or not the Lakers could have the cap space to still make a run at Kawhi next summer. Because I take Kawhi over George 11 times out of 10.

But yes. In a vacuum with no other secondary moves to consider I believe without question the Lakers would deal Ball + contract filler for George today.

I don't think I agree with this. Ball is a pure pass first who doesn't dominate the ball. I think that fits with any players.

Who doesn't want to play with or doesn't fit with, a guy who just wants to get them the ball in the best spot for them to score? lol

the problem is there is a better chance DJ becomes the governor of California than there is of Ball becoming a top 50 player of all time like Jason Kidd.

Or about the same chance as you ever seeing the Cavs win another title or making an intelligent, well thought out post re; the Lakers or Heat.

He gone....

As projected to have about $25M of cap room for 2019-20 before the Luol Deng buyout/waive/stretch decision. That'll go up to $37M before applying the buyout, which will increase it further. But likely not too much – a $5.9M buyout reduction equates to $1.0M in cap savings.

Stretch provision would start in the 2019-20 season with an additional 2 seasons of a cap hit.

SO....it looks like they take the whole 18 this year, and then- with the stretch provision- teh final year of 18m gets spread over 3 years---- so they have Deng against the cap for 18M this year, and 6M next year, and the two following years.

According to Hoopshype, 49% of the reduction reduces the 19-20 season, so This will depend on the amount of the reduction, but Hoops is projecting an additional 12 million in available $$$$$ - I sure hope they are right. I personally think that the $5 million more in space may be the most realistic - but lets see where the buy out lands us

I agree Ball can make himself fit with anybody. That doesn't mean he fits better than Paul George, who is an elite wing defender and a pretty good scorer playing off the ball.

Ball is a really good facilitator, but he will never be a better facilitator than LeBron. LeBron will have to change his game a little to fit with Ball. We would not have to at all with George and Ingram.

From Woj:

"ESPN reporting with @ramonashelburne: In buyout with Lakers, Luol Deng walked away from $7.5M on the $36.8M left on his contract. With waive and stretch provision, Lakers have cleared $38M in salary cap space in 2019 free agency."

Ball is one of the reasons Lebron signed with the Lakers without another star player joining him so I'm sure he's up for the challenge

Not implying that LeBron isn't up for that.

But you are making a major assumption that Ball is one of the reasons LBJ signed there. That is possible, but you defintely do not know that. I am not yet convinced Ball will still be on the team 2 years from now.

Lebron came to LA alone because he liked the young core the Lakers have. He's stated that numerous times. Lonzo is a part of that.

He came to LA because movies. And he hates Dan Gilbert. And he expects another big star to get signed next year.
