When you're sitting at home, how do you, the avid NASCAR fan watch the race? As in, do you watch the entire race from start to finish? Tune in from time to time but make sure to watch the last 25,50,100 laps? I tried watching it the other weekend and its too long and repetitive for me, but I thought about how does a nascar fan watch the sport. If they are glued for the entire length or just tune in?

Like any thing I watch on tv I will change the channel during commercials or if there is a caution, I tend to have the race and game on at the same time and flip back and forth, most races are Sunday and when my team is playing I tend to watch them more and the race a little less.

I watch it while I am doing something else and if there is a wreck i tune in for that. Most races i am only interested in watching the last 50-75 laps intently but the races at Talladega and Daytona i watch from start to finish as they can be explosive in terms of wrecks at almost any second.

I mostly watch it all, every lap. I enjoy many different motorsports. But if I catch the start, I don't have many problems staying tuned. If there are a bunch of caution flags, I may lose interest. I do prefer to DVR them and skip through the commercials though.

If I watch, I watch the start. I go do something else and come back to watch the last 50 or so laps. Nothing changes much in between except for an occasional wreck or caution.

I'm basically the same. I will turn every now and then to see where the 88 is running

usually watch it in the garage while working on our race car. Sometimes I kick back watch the first 20 laps take a nap, and then watch the last 20 laps. Or DVR the race and start watching it about a Hour into the race the FF through the commercials, and most the time I'm caught up by the end of the Race. I like to do the same thing with football games, I hate commercials.

Here is what it is.

1st its the couch. You tell the wife you are gonna watch the race. You get it on and hit the couch and you have 3 hours of nap time. If she wakes you up you do a quick glance and say Awesome (Insert driver name) is winning...she leaves and you go back to sleep. This is Nascar

during football season I DVR the races. at the end of the night I'll fast foward though a lot of it stopping to check out cautions or to watch 20 laps or so. i usually watch the laps 20 laps.

if it isnt football season i usually have the race on while I'm doing stuff around the house unless its the big races like bristol, dega, daytona and so on.

The only thing that matters in any race are the first 20 laps and then the last 20 laps. Other than that, it's great to have on the television while taking a nap on a Sunday afternoon.

From the sound of it we all watch it the same way.

I used to be pretty avid, but it just seems to have gotten boring for me the last few years, I still like going to the races, but when at home I definitely DVR and FF through the dumb shit.

The Cup is still the elite, but if your not racing for Hendrick, Childress, Penske or Roush your odds are pretty long anymore, those guys got the money, sponsors and talent pretty well covered. I don't know what Nascar can do about it, but it is lacking that same passion that fueled the sport for so long.

I absolutely agree flaraider and I started watching Nascar in the late 50's when it wasn't known to anybody to the extent it now is. You are right on about the four or five megateams. Add Gibbs and Stewart Hass to the mix and that about covers Nascar these days at the cup level. The Petty organization is trying to keep pace and then there are the one and two-car teams that usually finish in the back. Like you stated, Nascar doesn't know what to do about that and so that is why most of us sleep through 3/4 of the race.
