Sorry Teams that want Herman... Houston is in the works of extending Herman's Contract.
LINK: Houston talks 'reasonable' extension for 'hottest commodity' Tom Herman
"Attention athletic directors considering Houston's Tom Herman as your next football coach: Houston AD Hunter Yurachek isn't going to make it easy.
Speaking Tuesday on 1560 AM (via the Houston Chronicle), Yurachek said: “We’re committed to making it very hard for him to leave here at this point. Somebody is going to have to come and really take him and offer him something really phenomenal, because we are going to make it really hard for him to say no to the University of Houston.”
Yurachek, who acknowledged to the Chronicle that Herman is "one of the hottest coaching commodities in all of college football," said he has had "very general conversations" with top university officials about the parameters of a new extension, but Houston "has to be reasonable" in what it offers.
MORE: Nine bets for where Tom Herman will land
Herman was given a raise last Decemberto $3 million annually as he led the Cougars to the AAC title and a Peach Bowl victory over Florida State in his first season.
His contract includes a $2.5 million buyout if he leaves before Feb. 28, 2017.
Yurachek's comments — and Houston's talks about an extension —come as Herman's name has been mentioned in connection to Power 5 jobs as varied as LSU, Oregon, Penn State and Texas, among others.
After Tuesday night’s practice, Herman told the Chronicle, “It’s flattering to know your administration believes in you,” adding,“It gives you renewed energy to go out and coach hard and prepare to win football games. But we’re a long ways away from any finalization.”
