I'd make that exchange, if Desmond didn't sign anything more than about 3 years, I'm done with 5+ year contracts for 30+ players

Soooo...Darvish becomes a FA after next season & turns 30 in August of this year --- you wouldn't give him a 5yr deal/extension?

If he continues to show he's fully recovered from his surgery, 5 years won't get it done IMO.

I suspect 6 years at $25 mil per will be a starting point.

You don't platoon Beltre, and we aren't re-signing Desmond.

Beltre would probably be happy with getting a couple of days a week at DH instead of the field. Maybe not.

It's been said a lot, but you put it well. We will offer the QO and he will decline. I probably wouldn't be mad if he accepted though. 1 year at 16 million isn't a bad deal for the way he's been playing. I just hope he leaves the AL West. Unless Houston signs him and he immediately sucks. That would be funny.

Come on, we all know who is going to sign him...and ex-Ranger. He's going to baltimore next year. He already knows the area.

Darvish's contract is through 2017:

2016 Contract Status: Signed thru 2017, 6 yrs/$56M

He will be 31 when negotiating an extension or outright FA contract. If he stays healthy, he will get a top level contract. Or if JD offers him an extension on this off season it might be a bit cheaper for the organization.

Off topic, but Yordano Ventura may actually be more disliked than Bautista. Royals fans aren't even defending him.

I think he is viewed there like Padilla was here. Enough of the BS, just pitch and stop getting us in trouble.

edit: damn, ninja'd on the Padilla comment.

Possibly, but that's not platooning.

Side note on this, I still chuckle when I remember the "Dewey defeats Truman" like conversations going on around the Darvish bid :dhd:

Another reason the Blue Jays can suck it

Another side note...this thread alone has almost 650% more posts than the entire Astros board here on the Hoop. :pound:

I noticed some of the Texas posters who suddenly became "Astros fans" last season are eerily quiet so far this season. :dhd:

Yeah I see them around. But there are only 31 posters in the database that have Astros as their fav team in either slot 1, 2, or 3.

I wasn't clear, sorry

I was speaking mostly about OFers and other fringe type players, Beltre is an exception b/c he has a long history of excellent play

Pitchers are in a different realm when it comes to FA

I think it was yesterday that I saw that. Not sure if they know the cause.

IMO if Darvish doesn't get extended by us, whatever that may mean, and he hits free agency, we don't have a prayer of keeping him. Someone will make an outrageous offer.

This has to be one of the more active sports team boards on sportshoopla

I can't find the stats anymore, but it was top 10 and I bet it still is. If not top 5.

Surprised they are not trolling us here. I looked around at the other team MLB sites here and this is by far the most active. I did see a Tribe fan here last week, and a Mariners fan too. Other than that no trolling here from other team's fans. You would really think the Angels and A's fans here at SportsHoopla would try to come here now and then.
