I may have to dedicate some time tomorrow to listen to some local radio. See if there is any defense of this signing.
Cause I certainly can’t think of any.
System is weak at 1B and LF, and this nabs both holes I guess? This is just weird.I may have to dedicate some time tomorrow to listen to some local radio. See if there is any defense of this signing.

I don’t know the Pads system, so I can’t speak to their depth, but the face of the franchise (pre-Hosmer) was a 1B who has shown he is not good in the OF and has stated he wants to stay at 1B.System is weak at 1B and LF, and this nabs both holes I guess? This is just weird.
My default setting is to believe that pro sports front offices know more than me and they make smart decisions (even if they don’t always pan out or if I never see the logic of the move).I agree, and yet is it possible these guys whose job it is to handle this are just so stupid? I guess so...
The only way out is if they think their young prospects are actually going to compete right now or next year, and they overpaid to get a vet in there to lead them?
Yeah, I mostly am shooting from the hip guessing what the Padres are thinking internally. It's all perplexing, but hey, not my problem. Hope the Padres do well for Bolts' sake though.I don’t know the Pads system, so I can’t speak to their depth, but the face of the franchise (pre-Hosmer) was a 1B who has shown he is not good in the OF and has stated he wants to stay at 1B.
There is not an angle I have heard yet that makes this signing make any sense.

I don't get to use this very often. Only when a San Diego team screws up. Since there is only one team left, I had to.
Yep.The Padres did the Royals a big favor here. No way is Hosmer worth that contract, especially to a team like KC that has budget restrictions.
This guy thinks we are all wrong. Something about Hosmer being a great baserunner, his fielding is underrated statistically (he has won gold gloves) and the contract is backloaded or something.
I'm still not buying it. I guess the one thing Hosmer has is that he started his career young so he's only 27 (will be 28 this season) instead of 30 or 31 like some free agents.
Eric Hosmer striking it rich in San Diego is crazy enough to work
oh, bad reading comprehension on my part. The contract is extremely front loaded.
It’s 5/105 with a 3/39 opt in.
And I will at it’s possible that 1b d is underrated because 1b are more graded for recording while the stars tend to favor range.
