It was not a "blindside" hit but he went at a guy's head when he he was vulnerable. To me that is unacceptable.

but it currently isnt in the rule book ... head shots committed on blindside hits are deemed illegal ... watch the NHL rules video that shows legal hits and see how many have the head as principal point of contact ... i count 3

That's...harsh in my opinion. Sure I'm cheering for the Nucks, but I hated seeing that last night. Maybe I'm missing something, but it wasn't blindside or lateral, and he didn't target the head. It was late and unnecessary because of that, and Rome needs to respect his opponent enough not to dole it out so late, because players don't expect it when it's that late. No part of Rome's body contacted Horton's head. Horton is in trouble because of contact with the ice and whiplash. BUT, that's as a result of Rome's late hit. I thought 2 would be enough, but I guess I should be impressed that the NHL has the cojones to do something (except it's real easy to suspend a 5-6 Dman).

so the 2 factors involved in the decision were (according to Mike Murphy)

1) the hit was late
2) it caused significant injury

The new regime has to be careful about suspending based on injury. It can certainly tilt your view on the situation real quickly.

I agree with you about the players taking care of business themselves,but to what extent?

I don't want to see teams bringing in Riley Cote type players that can't do a damn thing but fight.

I think Lucic or Thornton will send a message next game.I just hope neither team loses it,and guys start getting tossed for a game or 2.
