I can't see it. I realize Moreno is being about as big a dick as he can be to Hamilton, but if given the choice between eating Hamilton's salary and eating Hamilton's salary + helping the Rangers save $60 million, even Moreno isn't that dumb.

Never underestimate the stupidity of sports owners.

.

I don't know. There is an idiot in there somewhere. Plus he rids himself of what could be a big issue that could affect the clubhouse.

Sure, if the Angels were willing to take on Choo's contract straight up for Hamilton's contract, financially that makes a lot of sense. For the Rangers.

I guess the question becomes, would Moreno prefer Choo and his additional $60m in salary over just simply cutting bait on Hamilton?

60 million?

6/116 for Choo
3/90.2 for Hamilton

That is what is left for both contracts...(including this season) (if we're talking straight up)

It's worth so much positive PR as well. They are killing their reputation with players and fans across they league. they took all Hamilton merchandise off the shelves at the stadium and completely took his face off some little league mural they had. They are trying to erase Hamilton.

If this were the NFL ... cutting bait would be an option. As it stands today appears LAA isn't going to be able to 'cut bait' anytime between now and 2017 either. MLBPA is not speaking on behalf of Hamilton ... it is worried about establishing a precedent affecting all the rest of its members and the CBA.

So -- when you read what is going on including what Jamey wrote and what CJ (who is the LAA MLBPA rep) is saying LAA is really over a barrel and would love to be out of that deal ... and TEX could make their day at a hefty premium.

I would ask for $50mil and settle for $40mil. Then TEX can decide whether to renegotiate Josh deal and get him into a program like he was in before. Does he ever play again? Don't know but if his contract is structured to around $20mil that's not that much different than Choo's for a LH COF bat.

And it would have three years less liability.

The Angels can absolutely release Josh Hamilton. They obviously would still be on the hook for his salary, but it is an option.

I also should add that I don't think anything ever comes from this. I doubt a phone call ever gets made between LAAAA and Texas.

Somehow I lost a year in there. Good Lord, that Hamilton contract is awful.
Told you there is an idiot in there somewhere. Still 7 yesrs left for Puljols and paid over 20 mill for Wells to play somewhere else.

Minus his injury plagued season Pujols has actually come pretty close to matching the value of his contract THUS FAR, once the bigger years are factored in probably not, but you never know

Didn't they talk to each other a few months ago concerning Hamilton? If they were motivated to trade Hamilton then, they certainly are now. If Texas was a consideration then, then why not now?

The back end of that one was always the albatross. They are getting cheap years of pretty good production right now.

Well relatively cheap.

He was paid $23 million last year. He had a good year, but I don't know if it was $23 million good.

For LAA versus Josh: There are few options other than TEX and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

In addition to sending them an ACTIVE LH COF player ... TEX could sweeten the deal by asking "can we help you in the near term at SS?"

Doubt TCU's Taylor Featherstone is heir apparent to Aybar ... and next option is still down in AA. So adding Elvis to the deal in exchange for pitching prospects which LAA would solve another current year issue for TEX and would set Profar and Alberto up to compete for SS for 2016.

Double deal gets rid of Elvis $15.3mil, Choo's $14mil and with Gallardo's $14mil gone at the end of the year means $43mil is freed up for 2016 rather than the Andrus burden though 2019 and Choo burden through 2020.

Yes -- TEX would have to figure out what to do with Josh for two years -- but to be freed of 3 of its most expensive 5 contracts would be a nice place to reload from -- especially with LAA taking on Choo and Andrus burdens.

According to fangraphs it was north of 20 million good
All I know is I wouldn't pay that for the numbers he put up playing 1B and and DHing 25% of the time. Whoever is developing the formula at Fangraphs obviously disagrees. If the Rangers agreed to pay that for someone they expected to put up those numbers at those positions I would say they were misspending their money.

I don't know that Texas would do the deal straight up without some money coming back. I really doubt they are going to throw in Elvis.

I remember STL fanbase went crazy when STL didn't resign him over LAA's offer ... am sure they are delighted now. I question the $20mil valuation too.

Valuation is only relevant if you get past your ALW win and show better than losing 3-0 to KC in the ALDS.

The price rises every year for people who can hit for power and average both. Pujols can still do that.
