He was on Mike and Mike and they asked who was going to be the best QB this year in our division. He said the easy pick was going to be Kolb with Fitz but he was going with Alex and Harbaugh. He said he finally has an offensive coach kinda like when he had Norv but now he also has targets with Crabs, Vernon, and Braylon.

I kind of think Vernon & Crabs were there last year - Either way ~ Go Herm! I hope he is right!

Yeah but Harbaugh and Braylon weren't. And you have to admit those are massive upgrades over the former. Keep in mind I can't wait to see Colin take over but I do think Alex will do better.

True, and if each lives up to the hype, then we definitely will be a better team. I suppose that mystery begins to unravel just a little bit in about 8 hours.

Herm is always showing the 9ers some love. I don't know if I agree with him on this one, though.

I was surprised to hear him say that and also to hear that he and Chris Carter think the Niners will make the playoffs. Seemed it had more to do with confidence in Harbaugh but they both had praise for Smith as well, thinking that he'll do better under JH. I agree.

I'm curious if he actually thinks this, or if he's just doing that NFL analyst thing and making the unpopular vote in order to increase his reputation if he turns out to be correct. Well, whatever, hope he's right either way.:tape2:

Has anybody seen enough of Kolb to even judge his future with the Cardinals.
I just don't get the hype on Kolb.
But that's just me...

I have no faith in Alex. Ray went to the practice and from what I got from Ray (a fair assessment to us all, not some beat writer trying to water down a problem so that he could be in good grace with 9ers officials) Alex is the same Alex. Hot and cold and is now far behind in comparison to where Sam Bradford is at now.

Sam is easily the best QB in the NFC West.

I received the same report from a friend and saw some film showing Smith throwing a 7-yard pass in the dirt and then doing that familiar hop that he does when he misses his target.

I know there are some who feel they need to see how Bradford & Smith play this year before they anoint Bradford as better than Smith or even as the best in the west. But from I saw last year, Bradford is the real deal.

Why do people keep saying that Smith will do bettle in Harbaugh's system? It's quite possibly the furthest system away from the spread there is.

I'm with you, Clyde.

I have said in other conversations that this system could very quickly become the final nail in Smith's casket. If the system is going to require Alex to think quickly and accurately (which I believe it will) then, barring a blessing from God himself, Alex could in for a short season

Seriously. This system depends heavily on playaction and underneath passes to TEs. When have those EVER been Smith's fortes? C'mon people.

Andy Reid got a 2nd rd. pick and DRC for Kolb, imagine what he's gonna get for Vince Young.

When has our team last had a coaching staff with any since of how to run an offense?
With Smith being the type of QB that likes to break everything down and learn every little detail about the playbook I'd think having real coaches for once is doing a lot for his confidence and ability. We will find out soon enough though.

It's also about being predictable. Opposing defenses won't know what's coming as easily as they did when Jimmy Raye was sending in plays. That also depends on whether or not we can move the ball. So, we'll see.

LMAO!!!!...Your comment brings to my memory visions of Morgan going in motion and then setting up horizontal to the line of scrimmage.

God, no team in the NFL telegraphed offensive plays like we did. But, really, when you think about it, it was okay because we had a formula; we were going to go out hit people in the mouff. It didn't work very well, but at least we had a formula.
