I'd guess it is because Kaepernick is a little bit more dynamic as a player, since he can also run the ball very well.

One thing is for sure though, Mallett had a better debut. He played the entire second half, completing 12 of 19 passes for 164 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. The Patriots scored touchdowns on each of the first four drives Mallett led, and ran out the clock on his fifth and final drive.

Go ahead, twist the knife, I can take it...

The Patriots are just a well-coached, well-prepared team, but ya, I heard Mallette looked pretty good. Playing in a pro style offense in college doesn't hurt either. Kaepernick is going to be a little behind in the learning curve because he played at Reno.

I know. Mallett's growth into the NFL is looking to be very smooth, and more than a few people are going to think it's all because of the QB, not because of the whole circumstances involved.

If anything, I just think this is just a reflection of a team that has a coaching staff entering it's 12th year. With every player except the rookies having a firm grasp on the offense. Compared to a team full of players that have roughly 5-12 practices under their belts.

Oh, and MW, I wasn't trying to twist the knife. I think Mallett would have put up even worse numbers than Kaep did if he was on the 49ers tonight. If I remember right, one of Mallett's negatives was his lack of mobility. Kaep's mobility probably prevented 2 or 3 sacks at least.

I know, I was playing. I just really wanted Mallett. And I agree, tonight would have been tough on any QB..

I was on board for Mallett as well. I'm not sure if Harb's had an issue with his character, or if he thought he didn't fit the style of offense he wanted to run. Mallett is in a great situation behind Brady and should be NFL ready by the end of the season. Unfortunately if Brady gets hurt it looks like Hoyer will be the back up. Hoyer might be the next Matt Cassel. If he ends up filling in the Pats might have another 2nd round pick to play with. I'm getting way ahead of myself, though.

I completely agree! Mallett has the best job in the NFL. Backing up the current best in the game and being developed by a state of the art run organization.

Agreed. I always think about Cliff Stoudt. Backing up Terry Bradshaw, he qualified for an NFL pension before he ever took an NFL snap.

Cliff Stoudt, there's a name from last week! I would put Gary Kubiak in the same fraternity. Gary was never going to make a living as a starting QB in the NFL, but he did quite nicely holding a clipboard.
