I think it has more to do with how your opponents are ranked rather than the defenses. Also, having your best performances in the biggest games is another factor. If you put up crazy stats, you will win it whether you are playing good defenses or not. We saw it with the last two Heismans. This year it will likely come down to the big game performances bc we have 3-4 guys that are close.

I am a little surprised that OU hasn’t gotten the Mike Leach/Kingsbury discount. Riley is really good. He has a very QB friendly offense. Voters haven’t seemed to catch on to that fact
