Players wanted to kill Haley. Unless he's changed drastically he won't be a head coach.
Keyshawn Johnson said on 97.5 that Haley is the best coach out there, and he brought out the best in players. His record as an assistant is incredible.

I would hire Coughlin to Mentor Duce....Duce will eventually be the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. It would totally make sense a guy like Coughlin takes over for 4-5 years, then Duce takes the reigns.

Yes this makes a ton of sense. Coughlin is the ANTI Chip Kelly. He is stern but fair with his players. I think you are talking about a 3 year rebuild with the Eagles anyway. So bring in Coughlin, have him instill the vision of building a true winner with this team not some hocus pocus shit team that Kelly made them. Then when Coughlin is ready to retire Duce is ready to step in to continue the process.

Coughlin is the type of coach that you give final say to on players on the roster (not as the GM just final say as to the roster). Even with a committee at the end of the day somebody has to have final say and as of right now Lurie has not said that. Because he is reserving that right through the interview process. Its a smart move on Luries part. Donahue gets final say if they hire a coordinator who has no coaching experience. If they hire a coach like Coughlin then he gets it.

One other thing if Coughlin comes in Spags comes with him. Despite the stats we have more talent on defense than the Giants did , so I believe Spags could turn this defense around.

The whole thing is, does Coughlins vision meld with Luries vision. That is what it comes down to. I also think he will be pressed on why he is out in New York. Was he fired, was it mutual or did he really resign?

Lurie/Roseman have no vision. They are blind mice.

From Wiki:
Coaching styleEdit
Haley has been described as an aggressive coach and can be combative with players.[4][19] During the 2009 NFC Championship Game against the Eagles, he had a first-half argument with quarterbackKurt Warner, then a short blowup in full view of television cameras with wide receiverAnquan Boldin later in the game.[4] He also had a spat with Terrell Owens when he was the wide receivers coach in Dallas.[4]Defending his style, Haley said "It's part of how I coach... It's part of how I motivate, and I like to think I've had some success doing it."[4

That doesn't work anymore. You think Jason Peters quit? No less than 6 others would quit on Todd.

As many have pointed out, College coaching and the pros are usually structured fundamentally differently. In college, the coach has full control, while in the pros there is usually a General Manager who has final say on player contracts. Why is that? Very simply because players get paid and its a business where the owner is at least as interested in making money as winning football games (Some more than others).

As a fan, I was very excited to see the Eagles under Kelly put the emphasis on Football over Finances. Finally we were going to see the organization go all in on winning football games at any price.

There is an old saying that if you want to understand something you need to follow the money...

Eagles Players Salaries...

2011 $127M
2012 $117M - Last Year of Reid
2013 $131M - Kelly with Roseman in charge of Money
2014 $134M
2015 $150M - Kelly with full control
2016 $134M - And counting without new contracts for Bradford, Thurmond, draft picks, etc.

Also note that under Kelly the Eagles had the largest coaching staff with the most assistants. Presumably one of the most expensive football operations in the league.

I think its clear that Kelly was a poor money manager. When he came in in 2013 they upped their player expenditures by $14M per year, and then when Kelly took full control in 2015 they upped it another $16M. 2016 was going to be more of the same, perhaps even worse. The deals for Murray, Maxwell, Bradford, Miles Austin, Brad Jones were all poor financial deals. Ironically, some of the deals the fans hate the most were actually good decisions financially...DJAX, Maclin, McCoy, Mathis. Bottom Line though is that Kelly was driving the Eagles into Salary Cap hell and costing the owner tens of millions of dollars...without getting any returns in the way of wins or playoff games (which are a huge revenue generator). Some of the moves were more subtle and less controversial. The Eagles went out and hired Special Team specialists like Braman, Seji and Maragos and paid them top dollar just to play special teams.

So when Lurie speaks to "retaking the organization" and the team going in the wrong direction, the fan naturally thinks this is about wins and losses. In reality it is every bit about dollars and cents. Without a clear payoff in wins and losses, Lurie was very pissed about seeing his expenses go up $33M under Kelly, and looking at the next off season and being reticent to pay Bradford and others the sort of money it would require. 2016 was a choice between going all in on Kelly/Bradford (A risky and expensive propositon) or opting for a cheaper rebuild. Lurie chose the rebuild approach.

So the Eagles are back to Roseman which represents fielding a hopefully competitive team on a budget rather than going all in on expensive and risky proposition. As a businessman I can appreciate Lurie's choice, as a football fan I am more than disappointed.

They will be looking for the good soldier type. Young, cheap, willing to do as their told on the business end. A Reid clone if you will from when they hired him from being a QB coach into being the HC. Then they draft Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook or Carson Wentz and they got their new McNabb to go with their new Reid.

Pretty obvious Gase was our #1 target, but I can't blame him for taking the Dolphins job over ours. Miami has a ton of talent on that offense, and he should do a great job turning Tannehill around.

So no Hue Jackson, no Gase and no Shaw…I'm not excited about who we're signing. Coughlin, Haley, Pederson? :L

I absolutely love the idea of Tom Coughlin coming here! The man is a proven winner....There is no question he would mentor a young coach in Duce Staley. He knows what it takes to win a Championship! We have nobody, nobody on this fucking coaching staff that has any clue what it takes to put together a championship football team. We need Tom Coughlin.

Yeah Lurie at this point has to be gun shy. Coughlin is his safest bet for someone who knows how it's done. Any other hire has a 50-50 shot. Coughlin is similar to Reid's burnout situation and that looks like it righted itself.

Exactly, and a perfect mentor to Duce Staley, whom we know Lurie likes, and it's been talked about Often what a young brilliant football mind Duce has.

Poor DPD. He works so hard to find shit that isn't there.
Lurie has to spend 89% of the cap between 2013-2016 just like every other owner. So, no.

Minimum spending floor could jump start NFL free agency this offseason

"If they don’t meet the 89% floor the owner of each franchise not in compliance will have to write the NFLPA a check for the difference. The NFLPA has latitude to disperse a team's shortfall to players on that team during this period. If the entire league's spending is under 95% over the 4 year period, the NFLPA can disperse that shortfall how it wants. This shortfall is secondary to any shortfall under the 89% requirement.

I’m told NFL owners would rather spend that money to improve their teams – either signing free agents or giving out extensions - than write an annual refund check (the floor comes into play in 2016 and exists every year moving forward in this new CBA)."
