Wow... Our OL received the 30th ranking in the NFL...

Ranking all 32 NFL offensive lines this season | PFF

30. Seattle Seahawks (19th)
Pass-blocking rank: 27th

Run-blocking rank: 29th

Penalties rank: 27th

Stud: It wasn’t the year he was hoping for, but Russell Okung continues to prove himself as starting-caliber left tackle in a league short of them.

Dud: The hope was that moving Justin Britt to guard might hide some of his weaknesses. The hope was wrong, with Britt having more issues at guard than he did at tackle.

Summary: It’s amazing that the Seahawks got as far as they did with a line that struggled to open many holes, and a pass protection unit that was sieve-like. It got better when Patrick Lewis came in, but their poor play serves to only highlight how good the backs were, and how talented Russell Wilson is at extended plays.

They need to not only bring in some fresh talent but they also need to retain as many olinemen as possible, starting with Okung. For as tough of a year as it was for them, they accumulated a lot of starts together as opposed to previous years where they never seemed to have the same lineup for more than 2 weeks in a row. Improvement at LG will go a long way imo.

Yep we need to build our O-line up... Imagine Russ behind a good O-line... They did improve as the season rolled on though, so I feel some hope there...

I'm really struggling with Okung. Is he really worth the 8-10 million a year he is going to demand? He gets hurt a lot and is inconsistent.

I think we need to make a splash and trade up for a new LT, okung just isnt worth it and the drop off is not even noticeable when hes out.

A look at the list of available LTs in free agency would show that Okung is probably the cream of the crop. Is he worth $10 million? Yes. The real question is whether Seattle is willing to pay that, and I have no reason to believe they won't.

I've been an advocate of letting him walk (purely for salary reasons), but Okung is a top half LT, if not top 10.

I really didn't see a Top 10 LT this year. He had some pretty horrible games including last Sunday.

27th in pass pro...I believe that.
27th in penalties...I believe that.
29th in runblocking? I disagree totally. Using a different rating system Football Outsiders rated our OL 30th in pass pro which is in agreement with PFF's rating of 27th, but FO rates our OL as #4 in the run game.

From the games I saw, I'd say our OL was at least top 10 in running protection and bottom 10 in pass pro.

I'd much rather have Okung at LT next year than a rookie (especially another damn converted D-lineman). Okung's injury history is a concern, but looking at who is out there, if the Seahawks are truly serious about improving their line for next year, then it's gotta be Okung at LT. I hope they keep him.

Considering how much better it looked in the second half of the season than the first half, to be ranked 30th overall at the end of the season must mean that it was dead last by quite a bit for a really long time.
