Has Jimmy Graham passed Rob Gronkowski as the best TE in the league?

I'm not being a homer with this one; I think Vernon Davis is the best (most talented) TE in the league when healthy. And if he had Brees or Brady throwing to him, he'd have 1500 receiving yards IMO.

You're right. They're not. But Gronk & Graham can't get open close to as easily as Vernon can. You alost have to put a safety on the guy. He totally changes the way you have to defend the offense.

Gronk & Graham are amazing too & they pose the same matchup problems; but Vernon is faster than most WRs. And Gronk & Graham have future HOFers throwing to 'em. Vernon has had Alex Smith ,for the most part, and a still-immature Kaepernick.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them healthy.

When someone prefaces their post with, "I'm not being a homer..."

They're being a homer.

So does that mean that anyone who thinks his team / player is the best in the league / at his position is being a homer? I think people can objectively say certain players on teams they like are all-pro'.

If I were a Lion's fan, I might qualify saying "Calvin Johnson is the best WR in the NFL" with the statement "I'm not being a homer."

The way Graham is playing he'll get as many receptions as Gonzalez by the time he's done.

VD is very good, (that doesn't sound right) but he isn't in the same class with the two Gs.

If I say Calvin Johnson is the best, there is always the possibility my opinion is skewed somewhat by my fandom. If fans from other teams say he's the best, it may be true.

Of course there's the possibility it's being skewed, but that doesn't mean you can't be objective.

It's not always as clear-cut as Calvin at the WR position. Sometimes it's a little closer determining who's the best like at TE, safety, offensive guard, etc. But that doesn't mean you can't legitimately say your guy is the best.

It's probably just me. I find it hard to believe that any avid fan of a team can be 100% objective about their own players.

People are so reactionary. There was also a smattering of talk of Brees being the best QB in the league in the MNF thread. Puhlease.

Well, I try very hard to be. I usually have a pretty strong opinion about starting players before they even play a single snap in the NFL because I'm a big draft guy, and only their play changes my mind - not the team who picks 'em. I've hated the cowboys since I was a kid, but I always tell my Cowboy fan friends I was really pissed when they took Jason Witten in the 3rd round; and I always gave him the credit he's due.

I was saying Kaeprnick isn't as good as the offense made him look since last season (although he's still pretty good). I think Michael Crabtree is significantly overrated in SF. Frank Gore probably gets about as much hype as he deserves.

Alex Smith has always been captain check down who needs to step like 4 feet into his throws to put any velocity on 'em.

Some players look better than they really are because of their surroundings, and some look worse. I think Gronk & Graham look much better because of the guys throwing to 'em. JMHO. They're both great of course, but I'd take Vernon & his ability to get open any day if I'm creating a new team.

But Graham has put up these numbers consistently, I don't think it's reactionary.

Graham is the best TE right now, and with all due respect it's not close. It's Graham and Gronk ......THEN the rest, and it's BEEN that way for like 3 years now(assuming Gronk comes back right this year).. A healthy Gronk provides a great argument as to who's the best, but I'd take Graham over a healthy Gronk. However, I'm not offended when people take Gronk because it's that close
