Phillies should go after Machado and then do a non-costly trade with the Reds to attain Kemp for the corner outfield. Kemp is only costing $10 million this year due to 2 other teams paying a majority of his salary. Reds might not even ask for hardly anything at all if the Phillies just agreed to take on the rest of his salary for this year. One year left on his contract, so it will not be an issue next year when FA opens.

Then the Phillies get Machado and Kemp this year for about the price they would have to pay for Harper during the year.

Some say the moon is made of cheese! We should send some beef and rolls on our next trip!
We all know the moon isn't made out of blue cheese...but if it was made out of bbq spare ribs would you eat it?

Do
Pollock deal seems pretty reasonable, granted he's always hurt. Cool that we're going to get both Machado and Harper for a combined $400

Good that the Dodgers are out of the Harper stakes. I think a deal is closer. Not sure we can get Manny too.

At their recent meeting last week, Kapler says he and Harper just hit it off and he 'really bonded' with Harper. True. I spotted the two riding in Cobbs Creek park the other day.

Kemp is good but he's 34. We already have 32-year old McCutchen.

Yep and with the addition of Machado and Harper AND McCutheon, maybe guys like Odubel will finally come out of the dark he has been hiding in and be the dominant player we all envisioned years hence.

With or without Harper, the chief OF characters are Odubel, Williams, Quinn, and McCutchen. With ST reporting in about three weeks, it’s odd that neither Harper or Machado are still unsigned.

Gotta be owner collusion to manufacture lack of interest by teams in the running, thereby creating lowered value expectations to reduce runaway free agent contracts.

I meant to say It’s odd the both Harper and Machado are still unsigned. But you knew what I meant. Ha, ha.

Anyway, free, daily cheesesteaks in 2019 to the Hoopster who is first to post the announcement of the actual signing of Harper.

If Harper was offered 10 years and 300 million to stay with the Nats he should take it. However it is possible that the offer
is no longer available. Still I believe the Phillies and the Nats are the only teams left in the final battle.

Kemp was an all-star least year, still has some pop, and while he is no CF anymore, he is a decent LF. Plus, he only has one year left on his contract so it isn't like you are taking on a massive multi-year contract that will limit your FA opportunities next year, or even for the rest of this year for that matter.

Just saying.

If the Phillies don’t sign Harper, I’d rather see Kemp on the roster as one of the usual five outfielders than Altherr, Florimon, and even Cozens who still needs to prove he can hit major league pitching. The Phillies need all the hitting they can get. Plus there’s no guarantee that Odubel, Williams, Quinn, and even McCutchen can get the job done.
