maybe if those dollars that Francesco Acquilini had to throw into the bottomless pit in Glendale, instead, went into the pocket of his Zegna slacks ... the ticket buying public in Vancouver wouldnt see price increases

/unless Acquilini urgently needed to buy more Zegna slacks

Dug back on the board and found this post:

Detroit is such a crap market.

I still have NO IDEA how Indy is that high. I guess it's close-ish to Chicago (still 3.5 hours away), but living here I can say I know only a handful of hockey fans, and all of them are from other areas. Funny enough, I think Pens fans are the most numerous now that I've converted all my friends. :)

probably a bit too oversimplistic to say detroit is not a good market for hockey just because the arena didn't sell out. doesn't pass the smell or the eyeball test.

You can still buy groups of up to 9 tickets in a row to tonights Red Wings game. Hockeytown my ass, they have not sold out multiple playoff games in the last few years now. Despite legions of bandwagoners, the Detroit is simply not that good of a market. And you know if Phoenix comes even 1 seat short of a sellout everybody on this board will be screaming bloody murder.

This is exactly why the NHL should not compartmentalize itself into a few isolated regions. The simply are not enough good hockey markets for the NHL to abandon anything south of Denver.

I would not call most red wings fans bandwagoners. Wings fans are some of the most knowledgeable people out there. Even if they havent been buying the tickets wings fans still blow their load thinking about that team. When I was in Detroit a couple of weeks ago all of the people kept talking about was how it was gameday and that game didnt mean shit to them. My favorite thing about Detroit there was not 1 dumbass pereson to yell shoot at the game.

The one that really jumped out to me is Fort Myers Florida right behind Detroit and Indy. Strange enough, I believe I am now part of that viewing TV market.

Not to disrespect the hometown, but I don't feel like paying $60 after fees for the cheapest seat in a bad neighborhood. If the arena was in Auburn Hills, maybe I'd be more inclined.

I am that guy in Detroit, but only when Ryan Getzlaf has the puck. Fucker should listen.

I do accept that they have a larger arena than most US teams. I think San Jose only holds a little under 17K. If they don't sell out but they sell 17K+ tickets, they are doing just fine.

Bridgestone Arena is similar I guess. It's relatively small for an NHL arena (17,113).

-Michigan's economy is still by far the worst in the country

-Many people have left the state and the city of detroit. detroit population has declined 25% in the last 10 years and michigan was the only state to lose population in the last census

-Wings prolonged success has a lot to do with it too.most people have taken for granted that the wings will make the playoffs and go deep every season. People have been become bored with their success. this is evident with the media when the only time they are talked about anymore is when they are losing. there is such a thing as too much success

don't let facts get in the way of a "good" argument, dash.

OH what do we have here... a hindsight hero!!

And Dash, I saw that right after the game, it was only a matter of time before somebody had to call me out.

And Sherbert, part of the point of this thread was to show how willing people on this board are to make excuses for Northern or "hockey" markets.

What point did you really make?
Detroit has been proven to be a top market.
The only thing I see about this is that you are bitter about Detroit for some reason.
