Martin misplay in CF ... nonchalanted it ... Pennington held at 3b recognizing Martin's arm ... but then walked home after Martin's misplay. 9-3 following a FC ... 2 outs.

Believe the moves will happen in five days ... whether Ogando has a successful rehab Friday night or not.

Ogando gets activated to start Wed ... Wolf moved to long relief ... Kirkman DFA'd to make room for Ogando. Kirkman clears waivers and gets sent to Round Rock ... or someone realizes Kirkman is misplaced in a RP role and puts him in their AAA SP rotation.

I'll bet you a cup of coffee that Kirkman doesn't clear waivers.

Maybe the Rangers make a deal in July to get a RP to get ready for the stretch drive...As of right now we know we can count on Ross, Tep, Nathan and Cotts. Like you said Wolfe to long relief. That leaves Frasor and Ortiz once Kirkman is gone and Ogando retuns. The question remains when Soria returns is Frasor the odd man out?

Before then ... I think Ortiz may be the odd man out even before Soria is ready in favor of Burns returning. That will put TEX back in the 1 LH RP (Ross) situation it was in 2012. Ortiz would benefit from depressurizing at AAA. (btw ... believe you meant Sheppers v. Teppesch above)

Soria as you project might bump Frasor ... or the lessor value of Frasor or Wolf. Might mean going without a real long relief guy if Frasor stays but if the SPs can even get through 4.0IP with good regularity carrying a long guy puts an extra load on the other six RPs.

The other thing is ... with Ogando, Teppesch and Grimm all averaging less than 6IP per start puts an average of 3-4 additional IPs needed be picked up by the bullpen each week. To keep from burning out the bullpen ... and keeping Nathan out of games (especially back to back) ... as Buzz said today TEX needs to get better work from the bottom of the bullpen. He ID'd Kirkman, Ortiz and Frasor as needing to pick it up ... Frasor may be the only one that might be counted on to do it.

I predict Burns sooner and Soria later with Frasor in the meantime.

I honestly think that if Kirkman had an option he would have opened at AAA in the rotation.

He actually had the strongest performance in camp and could have been given the #5 spot over Tepesch. I think Tepesch was a big surprise and TEX needed to see what he could do with a projection of Perez and Lewis thought to be back in May. So rather than give the temporary #5 to Kirkman the bigger potential gain was putting Tepesch in the spot and moving Kirkman to the bullpen.

I think you and I have long believed he is (like Feldman) the wrong kind of pitcher you can demote to the bullpen and get quality pitching from in one inning at a time or even in a long role.

So I agree with you ... and TEX knows it too ... if Kirkman is DFA'd he's not going to clear waivers and is going to be someone else's SP if they can afford to give him a 40man spot.

There is a long line of former TEX pitchers who do quite well in other places. Kirkman may be the next one in that category.

I don't remember the circumstances with Texas, but Kirkman won 13 games as a starter at AAA and then gets put in the BP in the majors. Will he make a starter some other place? Chances are he won't, but who knows? One thing is for sure, he's not a very good BP pitcher in Texas.

2010 for OKC ... 13-3 ... 3.09ERA ... 131IP ... 130K ... 1.397WHIP

As I remember it Kirkman and Holland were going head to head for a roster spot in late season Holland down at OKC on a rehab assignment.

Holland logged 62.2IP and had the PCL low ERA (1.06) Kirkman had ninth best ERA, was third in Ks and second in wins.

If waived ... Kirkman gets picked up elsewhere ... it may start out as an RP role this year but he will have a 40man roster spot and bet he gets put back into the SP mix during the off season.
