So if KC lights it up tomorrow night it means nothing? You think they will still give RG3 the go if he hasn't played in 3 weeks coming off a concussion?

Like every other NFL team, the countervailing argument will be.....If our starter had played we would have performed even better. Let it go Dean, the die is cast, Griffin WILL be the starter (barring injury) against Miami. So the answer to your question is.....even if KC starts and throws for 17 TD's 600 yards and runs for two more scores, is substituted as a corner forces a fumble and makes a flying impossible index finger interception, Griffin still starts against Miami! Sorry man, I know you had hopes.

First off Rg3 might not cleared to play against Miami. If KC lights it up tomorrow night and then starts week 1 b/c Rg3 is out and beats Miami with good numbers you guys will still start RG3 in Week 2. lol. That is crazy. What more does KC have to do to prove he is the better QB?

Let's be clear about the NFL's concussion protocol.......... The NFL protocol calls for the team to test a player and as part of the testing process some light football like activities be included followed by further testing. I cannot emphasize this enough.....the team does not have final say in his passing for further play. That is done by a league approved "independent" Neurologist. This is how that is done......all team testing results are turned over to the league neurologist who reviews the results of those tests, followed by an examination of the player who must also pass their test. ONLY after all of this is completed to the satisfaction of the league will a passing stamp of approval be given.

I'm thinking your right Stymie. The Neurologist during the examination probably asked RG3 how he felt, and Robert said "I'm the best QB in the league"...that would be an immediate sign that he was still concussed.

how far does the foolishness go dean? . if Rg3 is not cleared to play vs miami then what KC does in a regular season game DOES matter . but we are talking about a preseason game now arent we ? your words "this preseason game does matter because if KC lights it up he should start "

now you want to change the parameters of the discussion so lets real you in and get back to the issue . it is a preseason game and it wont matter because preseason games are not the same as regular season games in so many ways it cant be counted

now in your slappy scenario then you would have to strongly consider keeping KC as the qb because of what he did in a regular season game vs an opponent not what he did in a preseason game when most starters arent playing or arent going full tilt with no game plan

if you dont get that then no one can help you and your slappiness

I'm going to go out on a big thin limb here and say if KC doesn't suffer an injury, RG3 might not see the field this season.

KC could throw for 400 yds tomorrow and it means nothing as it pertains to who starts against Miami. Dean, you really need to get past this what if crap and live in reality. Rg3 is the starting QB for this team.

Well that is a slap in the face to KC. Who has clearly outplayed RG3 this training camp and in pre-season. Doesn't this organization want to win?

The organization doesn't know how to win, that's why they hired SM. Time and patience, or the lack thereof will tell how far they are willing to go to learn or abandon his efforts to show how it's done!

Remember J Reed having a concussion a couple of years ago and during the week they would say he looks set to play. Twice on game day he said he had a headache and he ended up missing another 6 weeks. I don't think there is any surprise here.

dad thanks for the heads up on the Jacksonville game last night. I didn't realize there was a game on TV. Bortles threw the ball 29 times. He wasn't sacked once. He did run effectively several times and he side stepped some pressure a couple of times. His backups were sacked 4 times. Make of that what you will.

dean I think stymie happily told you what will happen when Griffin is healthy again. He will return to be the starter. Remember Griffin has never won the starting position on the field. He was announced the starter in his rookie year before he ever stepped on the field. Cousins outplayed him in the preseason. I remember Doc Walker saying "this is not what they run in practice." For 5 games it made a star of Griffin. I say 5 games because the Skins were 3-6 and Shanahan was going to start evaluating players. It was at that point they went on a 7 game winning streak and made the playoffs. Cousins brought them back against Baltimore and he won the Cleveland game. That is why I gave Griffin credit for 5 games.

Last year many including the NE Patriots thought Cousins outplayed Griffin. No matter Griffin was named the starter before camp started. This year despite being outplayed by Cousins and McCoy the HC said Griffin is the starter no matter what. I believe Stymie, when Griffin is healthy he will become the starter again. I don't think how McCoy or Cousins plays matters.

I am hoping they can keep Cousins and McCoy healthy for the final two games. I don't think they have a 4th QB in camp. I hope Griffin regains his health too. Football is a violent game, for me that is part of the attraction. This team has not had a top notch line for years. Despite that I believe Griffin is his own worst enemy when it comes to getting hit so often. That being said you hate to see a kid like him get beat up so often no matter who is at fault.

I still don't understand Dad's position regarding preseason games. Of course they are watered down, of course the results don't matter, but they are still very very important. That goes triple when you have a QB demonstrating poor line protections and other development issues that can only be resolved with game experience. Was it just like a practice when he called the wrong protection and got his clock cleaned by a blindside hit?

This was a very very important game for Robert, not only for his development but for the coaches to evaluate. And, this just in, coached put a HUGE premium on preseason game film. It's how they rate players, define starters and decide who stays and who goes home. The Cowboys gave some unknown FA the starting QB gig based primarily on his preseason play. Long shot late round picks make teams and start careers not based on what they did in shorts or in light hitting full pad practices, no they make the team based on how they did during the preseason games.

This game in particular can only serve to do one of two things, and both are likely bad in some context.

Possibility one: Kirk goes out, looks good. That would result in a full tilt media storm of Should Kirk Cousins be the starter going forward. Since we all know that as of right now RG3 will be the starter as soon as he is healthy, it will only add to Grudens stress eating, thus leading to more comments during the presser of "Hey guys, I'm not fat Im just big boned.

Possibility two: Cousins goes out and looks average to bad. The line then will be, well the Skins are screwed at QB no matter who they go with. It will however allow them to stick with the plan and insert RG3 back into the lineup as soon as the answer to the doctors question of what day is it Robert is not answered Purple.

All that to say, as Skins fans, right now pay no attention to the QB play irrespective of who is under center. This season should be about the rest of the teams development until such time as we find ourselves in a position where we are either some how magically still relevant come week 12, or 2016 which ever comes first. :suds:

If cousins even plays average, leading the offense to a score or two, the shit storm that will erupt next week will be unparalleled in Redskins coverage. This has to be Danny's worst nightmare. I hope cousins lights it up for a couple reasons. First, I'm a Redskins fan and hope whomever is behind center lights it up. Second, it has always irked me that Griffin was handed the job this year. Finally, it would stick it to Danny, something I've been wanting to see happen for years. Oh yeah, it will also make this board real entertaining. I can see dean's posts now........

Yeah no question this is a mess. Again the purpose of this season is to give Griffin one last chance to show what the deal is. It's why they gave him an extension and insisted he be the starter. They need to find out once and for all if he has a future here. They would prefer to find this out sooner rather than later so having him miss this game, and introducing the possibility of Cousins or Colt seizing the job, was not their plan.

Preseason games are important when you aren't an established performer like Kerrigan or Trent Williams. I agree that Griffin needs snaps and live playing situations. He looks good in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 in TC because he knows he isn't going to get hit.

I think Cali was talking about being tired of the mess. I have to agree. We should ask ownership to change the fight song to Ringling Brothers Circus music. Griffin can't pass gas without causing a shit storm. :dhd: Maybe the best thing for all would be for him to move on so he can get a fresh start and the fans can try to move on. It hasn't been fun being a fan for a long time.

At the risk of sounding like a complete dick, I either want him to succeed here, or go to the CFL. Last thing I want to see is him go to another NFL team, and for farts sake not another NFC team, and do well. Imagine him going to like the Bucs or to a coach who will put him in a one read quick pace offense and he does well. It would officially make us the worst franchise EVER.

So no either he gets it done here, or I hope he ends up playing for the Swamp Monsters.

Thing is Dean, outside of training camp and some snaps in preseason , KC has t really separated himself that much IMO. Has he played better than Bob? Sure. Is he a better QB? I think so too. But until he proves that he is far and away the best and proven he has "starter" skills in this league, he won't be given the final nod. KC needs to seize the moment and play lights out the next game or two. He had his opportunities last year in real game situations and blew it. Until he proves he is past that, the staff, team, and FO probably won't have any more confidence in him than they do RG. Just my 2cents.

It will be interesting to see what he does with this opportunity. I think at some point this season, Kirk will get his FINAL chance to prove he has what it takes.
