this is a bit high....chandler, great move...and sheard, he COULD blossom here...but outside of those depth grabs?

New England Patriots
They lost both starting corners in Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, although the latter is replaceable. Losing Revis hurts a lot. They did re-sign safety Devin McCourty, which was a must. The addition of pass rusher Jabaal Sheard from the Browns was a good move. Tight end Scott Chandler will help the double-tight sets with Rob Gronkowski.

Grade: B-

How about C-

The Patriots went from a world class championship secondary to a group of guys that will break records for passing yardage allowed. Superbowl Repeat? Fugetaboutit!

Good list. I like the fact that they emphasize teams that don't do a lot in free agency & mainly rely on the draft (e.g. Packers & Steelers). As a Redskins fan I am excited that they finally have a true GM who emphasizes this approach (as proven with his stints in Seattle & SF) & has been true to his word thus far by primarily signing younger, cheaper, lower profile FAs.

This right here...most of these lists seem based on whether a team made a big signing or not. Sometimes the quietest teams in the league are the ones making the best decisions. Such as Green Bay just signing their own back and being happy to continue years of success relying on making good draft decisions and not overpaying in FA. I actually agreed with him in I thought Green Bay did the best in they had 2 top of the market players getting ready to hit FA and instead signed them to good contracts for both the team and the player.

I have a hard time understanding how a team can lose their #1 and #2 CB while adding a #2 TE and a depth pass rusher results in a B-? Patriots fan or Belicheck blower?

I agree on the Atlanta grades. I think the guys we got are solid, with Clayborn possibly being a real player for us, rest kind of stopgap type players.

I always expected us to build through the draft unless we got guys at the price we wanted.

Of course, the chance to get Michael Bennett from Seattle is the rumors have any truth....

Arizona getting a solid B is about what I expected at this point. They still have a significant amount of cap space left to use for a combo or a RB/TE/LB/CB, etc. and our GM loves the 1 year "prove it" deals so it'll be interesting to see what else is coming in the next few weeks.
