If you are banking on AJ providing the team leverage...wow.

No offense, but AJ doesn't offer much more than Dalton. Period. As I said, if the Bengals wanted a real insurance policy, they would have drafted a much higher rated QB earlier in the draft. They didn't.

I explicitly mentioned that I *didn't* say AJ would be any good...... He lasted to the 5th round for a reason.

But you know how Mike Brown works. He can easily play hardball with Dalton's representation when he's got a popular back-up on the roster.

Like it or not, AJ McCarron is a popular back-up.... He's a household name and a LARGE percentage of our fans will believe he is MUCH better than Dalton even if that's not even close to a reality.

Perception is reality and perception is key in the Dalton negotiation.

Agreed on this. No doubt.

Dalton will not take less money to play here.

Brown has the leverage here, he knows the contract will be outrageous for Dalton because QBs don't come cheap in this league. He doesn't want to cut 4 or 5 players in order to stay at his 89% of the cap player budget. he's not going to spend more than he is required to.

AJ Mac is next (unless we suck eggs this year and get a high draft pick)
is he Andrew Luck... no
is he a better leader than Dalton... yes
better arm... yes
more accurate... for the most part
more experienced... not yet

Most of the leverage in these type of negotiations is based on how much the player can get if they hit the open market.

That's why I'm betting the Dalton situation is a complicated one.

He threw for 30 plus TDs and 4000 plus yards last season. He led his team to the playoffs the past 3 years. There's no way he and his agent can accept less than legitimate franchise QB money (15-18 million a year). Here's the problem- I doubt The Raiders, Titans etc are crossing their fingers that they get a chance to sign him to a big time contract. So his numbers warrant a huge contract but I doubt there's a huge market for him at that price tag

That's all a guess though.

I agree. Though it always only takes one, it's hard for me to imagine another franchise giving him 'franchise' money. Maybe Jay will take him if RGIII flames out.

It would not be out of the possibility to see Dalton in Washington with Gruden.

And we know how Dan loves to spend money.

Whoever is winning. It could switch from week to week. I may sell my fandom like that one idiot did a few years ago.

Indianapolis is always a fun trip.
see the fb game, take the kids to the countries #1 children's museum, go see the dolphins at the zoo, visit the racing museum (even better if you can catch a race when your there), watch some top rate minor league baseball. Cincinnati half-asses everything, the more I get away from this town the more real that becomes.

Eh. Most of the national "pundits" gave them a B.

It was a good draft.

Got a solid CB that can play this year, and that could be needed.

Got an upgrade in the power running game, and solid partner for Gio.

Drafted a Center that could start.

Drafted AJ, the future face of the franchise, if you talk to enough people around these parts.

What's not to like?

LOL
