I still remember that MNF beat down. Haslett finally got a clue and blitzed the hell out of Romo. What happened the next game? That blitzing idea was too good of an idea, so he bagged it. Result: blowout loss.

For all of the bad that the NFL has done recently I like what they did in this case. They probably assume that the suspension will be reduced with any appeal. However - they are sending a clear message to the next clown that tries to kick the crap out of his wife, girlfriend or kid. The penalties for those folks will be severe even if the law lets them off due to some type of technicality.

As bad as the Adrian Peterson thing was, and it was really really bad, I sort of felt a bit differently about that one. Not sure why, he was beating a little kid. But I grew up in the era of the switch and remember them well and I guess I just saw it a bit differently than Ray Rice, who after cold cocking his girlfriend showed with his body language that her limp body was more of an inconvenience than the result of horrible behavior.

But what little sympathy I had for AP disappeared as he continues to play the role of the victim here. He was not the victim, the child was.

The NFL needs to start administering discipline and stop with reducing them in appeal. It's become a kangaroo court.

The NFL is in a win-win situation here. They did what they were supposed to do by meting out strong punishment. If that somehow gets reversed, they can always say that that was out of their hands.

But be prepared for a big jolt on appeal. Hardy's suspension could be reduced all the way down to two games, which was the penalty prescribed under the standard applicable when he beat up his girlfriend. If the arbitrator believes that standard applies, Hardy may be playing in Week 3. This, of course, falls into the NFL's lap. Why did they punish people like Greg Hardy much less under the former provision and others who smoke pot far longer?

i am really glad haz is gone. But not out of the woods. Joe Barry could be a downgrade, we just don't know until they play the games.
