I think we are looking at different things. Im more concerned with april 15th numbers. Having a bigger check every pay day is great, unless I owe uncle sam every year. So from my perspective, with or without state tax, at the end of tax season it was pretty much a wash because the 500 a month in state taxes I dont pay, generally will push me into the higher tax bracket at the end of the year if I dont adjust for it.

This is take home at the end of the year...both federal and state income tax paid for. I know what you are saying but the deduction in taxes lowers taxable income...not taxes minus taxes.

And I get what you are saying. And Im telling you that having lived in VA, and Florida making roughly the same amount, the difference was not as awesome as it seems. My take home was a tad higher. BUt it was offset by the higher federal tax bracket. The real break is in the difference in cost of living between a place like Florida, and say the DMV. Well that and not actually needing to file a state return.
