Actually would love to see him either in Jacksonville or Denver.

Jax has a better team than Denver plus free income tax. So if he wants to win why on earth would he choose Denver over Jax? Assuming these offers are real.

As some one who lives in Florida, the no state tax thing is a double edged sword. While you dont have state income tax, you also dont get to write what you would have paid in state tax off on your federal return which usually means you end up in a higher federal tax bracket.

So while its a nice perk, I dont think it makes or breaks a deal.

Jax or Minnesota are my choices for him as I would love to see him compete for a SB in year 1

Jets 3rd because I kinda like the Jets in the AFC

Aside from going to the Browns, I actually think he would be competing for a Super Bowl where ever he goes.

I'm a big Cousins fan but thats a fairly bold take.

I cant see him competing for a SB with Dolphins, Cardinals, Denver, or the Jets in year 1

Yes and no, you might take home more during the year, but you pay for it come tax time.

I think its safe to say Cousins is going to be in the highest federal tax bracket. So where as some one making $25K per year is in the 10% bracket ( 10% of what you make should be paid in taxes) Cousins will max out and hit the 39.6% tax bracket.

So for every million he makes, Uncle Sam is going to expect around 39% of it.

Florida take home on 10 million is 6.02 million

Colorado take home on 10 million is 5.6 million.

Extrapolate to 30 million and KC would see 1.2 million more in FL.

Actually from a tax standpoint its about a wash. Colorado's state income tax is 4.6% BUT he would get to write that off on his federal taxes, lowering his federal tax burden. The real bonus to living in a place like Florida is the lower cost of living. A house in Florida that would cost you $300k will run you 2-3 times that in Denver.

Seven offers, one winner: Playing out the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes

I agree it should be Jax. Its not a big difference in money PLUS you have the factor in no income tax in Florida. That is what really sells this. IF KC wants to win Jax is the place to go. Anyone else agree?
The Jags are definitely the best landing spot, but it probably can't be done without an Osweiller/cap trade or restructuring several of the big money contracts they've got. The author's conclusion is based on bad facts.

The author is under the belief that the team can clear 19M in cap space by cutting Bortles—that is not true. Bortles is on the books for 19M and that becomes fully guaranteed on the first day of the league year, but since Bortles just had wrist surgery, the team can’t cut him, so they’re stuck with Bortles and his 19M on the books. Even with Bortles, they might be able to sign Cousins, but that could create a locker room issue.

Then there is there is the fact that they probably can't land both Cousins and Allen Robinson. Tagging Allen Robinson would cost them another 16M, though a LTD would likely cut that in half, but they have to make that decision in the weeks before they FA opens. Essentially, unless the Jags want to make an Osweiller/cap trade or restructure several of their big money contracts (something they don't do much of), they'll have to decide between Cousins and Robinson.

Good info. If they let Robinson walk could they still sign KC to the deal that was presented in the ESPN article? Probably would have to restructure some deals. This has to be KC #! choice to go even with losing Robinson.

Yes, I think if they let Robinson walk, or they sign him to a LTD with a low 1st year cap number, I think they can do a deal similar to what the author proposed. They can cut 2 guys and get the 10M or so needed to sign their draft picks. Then they'd let all their other FAs go (Poz, Lee, Colvin, etc.) and restructure (credit card) a couple of their big money deals. They'd be tight against the cap, but imo, it would be worth it to maximize their playoff window.

I think one thing no one is factoring in is that while Cousins was hard line when it came to his Money ad the Redskins, there is always flexibility in contracts if the player is willing to be flexible. If Cousins wants to go to Jacksonville or Denver, there are ways to do the deal, still make his money and NOT put the team in a bind.

Actually, they have calculators for take home pay by state. My numbers were pretty accurate because they use state and federal taxes.

I think we are looking at different things. Im more concerned with april 15th numbers. Having a bigger check every pay day is great, unless I owe uncle sam every year. So from my perspective, with or without state tax, at the end of tax season it was pretty much a wash because the 500 a month in state taxes I dont pay, generally will push me into the higher tax bracket at the end of the year if I dont adjust for it.
