Read a couple things and said Goldson will start at FS and Whitner at SS and Williams could be cut depending on Mays

Good, I hope it works out that way.

Mays has got to be really awful if he cannot beat out Madieu Williams.

Williams would be a FS. How would Mays beat ANYBODY out at FS?

Just saying, Mays is awesome in Madden.... I hope Whitner is fast enough to cover TEs and crossing routes :)

Mays is awesome amongst his fanbase. But in reality...

Our DBs are lookin a lot nicer than last year. Interesting to see who fills the second CB spot. Probably our weakest spot right now.

lol really! It took me one online game to realize Lewis(at that time) was not the answer at SS as TE's Wrs n Rbs were killing him.....

Made the switch and kissed my worries good bye.

In Madden, I do get alot of tackles and passes defensed with Mays and he's usually always there when the play happens, but he does get almost no picks. :-)

So there is some realism there.

Whitner's main job is to be helping the run thats what a SS does and then cover the TE, he wont get beat by too many TE's. Goldson will be the guy that will have to do a good job in coverage however with Rogers as an upgrade over Clements hopefully we wont have to rely on our FS

Given the trends in the NFL these days, I don't think you're assumptions are accurate. Of course, you could be right if Fangio's safeties are that specialized. But even so, Goldson will be asked to cover a significant amount, especially if Whitner is creeping into the box or we're sending backer pressure, which seems to be the slant of our D.

You're absolutely correct! In fact, over the past few years the positions of SS and FS are becoming interchangeable as far as player skill set is concerned. Both need to be able to cover and play in the box.

With Smith injured, I'd rather Goldson/Whitner over Williams/Whitner.

I know Williams was 1st team today, but they're rotating them a lot to see what they have. I wouldn't put a lot of weight into who is with the #1's or #2's yet.

Goldson and Whitner you'd have to assume are clearly #1 and #2 with R. Smith out. Behind that its wide open.

What ever happened to Madieu Williams? He used to be really good in Cinci'. Injuries?

I hope so too, hopefully he's not out too long to lose the job by default.

Maiocco tweeted earlier today that Reggie Smith had a tear in the meniscus in his knee, that he would miss a couple weeks but it wouldn't be a long term injury. I kind of like the idea of Smith/Whitner as starting safeties, myself.
