I actually loved the letter.
I love anyone in sports that does not adhere to the status quo- cliche - trite quote.
LeBron is actually the king of those and it annoys me at times- his quotes are canned basically a lot of the time- its why it was interesting he actually said something about the "secret" motivation because he usually gives the media nothing but the obvious cliches
I love that Gilbert was fired up and didnt run everything he does passed legal before it goes down. I wish morep eople in sports acted like that- even if in the end it was ill-advised
I understand the emotion behind the letter and in a way, kudos to Gilbert for trying to rally/encourage his fanbase. But the letter was such a bad idea that it made the Lakers "Stay" posters for Dwight look like genius.
Once Lebron is gone, do you think that letter is going to help Cleveland attract top FA's so that they can remain relevant? I don't know about the players themselves, but their agents have long memories and it's a pretty safe bet that they will bring that letter up to their clients when the Cavs are trying to attract them.
Something along the lines of "if they'll trash Lebron like that, what do you think they'll do to you if you leave?"
