Make sure to avoid Tauruses. My '05 is lucky to get 18 mpg on the highway, they have pretty unbelievably bad gas mileage.

^ That's fucked-up...something had to be wrong with it. That V6 should be getting at least 25+.

My personal choice would be Nissan. A Sentra should get you around 35mpg and is very dependable.
