well once again, refer back to the other thread, i made a comment on my opinion on ovechkin, and get sworn at for multiple posts.......yet somehow its me being childish?

There's equal amounts of blame to go around, in my opinion. Heck, I probably should have said something last night to try to put a stop to it at that point. Playoffs always bring out the best and worst in people so a little extra latitude is given to people recognizing that emotions are running high.

After a game like last night especially!

This is a private forum. It's ok for him to swear n tell everyone to F off here.
Trolling is part of a message board.
Swearing like a 3 year old and derogatory remarks not so much.
But unless ur a Bonafide nhl board member, then u have no right here on the public forum.

You are confusing rights and respect. I am not a mod and don't determine who posts here and there. You have the right to say what you want, I'm just noting that nobody here is going to respect it, reinforced by the fact that the post I made is the most liked one on this thread.

But since you seemed bothered by my posts, I didn't respond to you today and will continue to not in the future. I don't know you or your character, I just don't think you know very much about hockey, and seeing as this is a site where we talk about sports, it seems dumb to object to the relevance of that.

But I gave the Caps the Cup and they yet again didn't even make the conference finals, so what do I know. Well, more than you... but apparently not much.

Then your excusing his actions, yet condemning the reciprocations he may receive for his vulgar and inappropriate comments in the first place.....

Here's the bottom line (and this goes for @elocomotive and @Psych-Ward as well). If you guys want to continue this via a private conversation, go ahead, but frankly, in my opinion, this is getting quite tedious and I don't think the rest of the board should have to be subjected to these childish posts. Thus, I'm just going to start deleting posts that contain personal attacks and if that doesn't work, we'll move to the next step.

So whatever steps you feel need to be taken, I just think the neglectful comments towards those of us who may not be master historians of hockey to try and follow the sport here on the Hoop that are met with the comments that we have faced from said individual are unwarranted. I mean isn't the object to create a bigger fan base??? I would think... But how can you complete such a task when someone comments, only to be met with a barrage of vulgar comments..... As seen by several others, not just myself. But when one of us strikes back, then and only then is there and urgency to put a stop to it.

I was not on a team board making my comments, which I believe is the way things work on the Hoop. Oh unless here in hockey land things are different. I will keep my comments from the general boards, because unless your one of the faction, its not acceptable to troll the troll....

Regarding the bolded above, most definitely and NHL playoffs is the best time to create that bigger fan base. I appreciate your post above and acknowledge that things likely should have been handled better.

I appreciate your candor, I haven't been into hockey all that long and have mostly stayed in the Flyers boards. And when a few of us ventured out and into the main boards, yea, it was a little heated on the main boards.
But to tell us we are dumb and do not deserve the respect and have no rights..... because we are students to the game y'all love.... it does kind of cause the trolling that has happened. I apologize to you for this happening, but didn't feel it fair for those of us trying to learn the game.

If said individual where to stop by the Steeler threads because he were interested in football, I can't think of any of us who would discourage him from wanting to be in the Steeler Nation.

Again, my apology.

No worries - I hope you continue posting on the NHL General board as well as the NHL team boards, I think we have a pretty good community of posters who frequent this site and I'd hate to see one or two bad incidents dissuade someone from posting on this board.

Thank you, and I hope to join in more as I learn the game more. It's a pretty bad ass sport once you figure out what's going on.

Find some college, European games on tv. Even better than nhl imho. Nhl is entirely to bogged down by rules and systems. Those leagues you see skill win out.

Just a little history lesson to put things in perspective here. The majority of the posters here (eloco included) migrated here to avoid the shitstorm that was the ESPN boards. At the time, the Hoop was a fledgling site and the majority of the activity was on the NHL General board, so we pretty much ruled the roost. In an effort to keep out the riff-raff from ESPN, we mods ran a tight ship...no personal attacks, no excessive trolling, and if you do troll, at least bring something witty and entertaining instead of the old tired cliche crap.

As the site grew, changed owners and had to set up their own rules for the betterment of the entire community, some of those rules were at odds with how we had ran things here for years. As we adjusted our mod style to be more in line with the overall site, sometimes we would, and sometimes we still do, revert back to our old habits of running things more tightly.

Since Eloco has been a long-time well-known poster amongst the NHL Generals here, most of us understood the nature and joviality of Eloco's "fuck off" comment, and we mods let it go. In hindsight, if he had included an emoticon to convey his intent better, or if one of us would have stepped in to explain the comment more (which ties somewhat into the history of this board) much of this probably would have been avoided.
