Give me one reason why Mike McCoy should still be employed tomorrow.

Last 20 games - 5 wins, 15 losses.
Last 15 one-score games - 3 wins, 12 losses.
Last 9 division games - 0 wins.
Other 31 NFL teams leading by 10+ in the 4th quarter this year: 25 wins, 0 losses
Chargers when leading by 10+ in the 4th quarter this year: 0 wins, 2 losses

Would this ever happen to a Bill Belichick team? Fuck no. They've reached Cleveland Browns' levels of suckitude with a borderline hall of fame QB.

McCoy is a coach who got his job on the back of Peyton Manning. Chargers had the chance to hire Bruce Arians, and passed. Fire him now and make Ken Whisenhunt the coach for the final 12 games.

As a selfish Chiefs fan, I'd like another win on week 17, but can't really argue with any of this.

Season is over with him as coach and all the injuries anyway. At this point I'm all about another top 5 pick that will hold out and not play.

Gordon had 2 fumbles on 2 straight plays... I thought the game was over until that happened.

Tough loss yesterday for SD.
Actually it was Gordon then Benjamin with one fumble each. Both fumbled while trying to get extra yardage when the objective should have been to burn clock and protect the ball. Situational awareness - that's coaching.

They do suck, but McCoy didn't make those turnovers late....basically gift wrapped it for NO.

No, but a well coached player knows the situation. Up 13 with 5 minutes to go I know my priority is not the extra two yards but holding onto the ball. Somehow Gordon didn't know that. When I'm up 6 with 3 minutes I know as a receiver that I make the catch and priority is ball control, not making an impossible cut and going for 3 more yards. Somehow Benjamin didn't know that. Like I said, situational awareness... something you never see an issue with on well coached teams.

Like I said, the season is done. The numbers I posted don't lie. With those numbers you can forget about some sort of miraculous turnaround. Norv Turner got far better results. Fire him now and you have the benefit of evaluating Whisenhunt for 12 games before making a final decision for 2017.

I have never seen a team with a greater ability to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory than the San Diego Chargers. It's uncanny.

Your stat on the other 31 teams is wrong. Broncos were down 10 points going into the 4th quarter against the Panthers week 1 and came back to win.

As for the topic at hand. There are times that owners are too impatient and fire guys way too early before they actually get a chance to show what they can do and then there are owners who are loyal to a fault even when the team is failing. I would say McCoy has run his course. He isn't the worst coach in the NFL by any means but he is far from the top. And when you look at this Chargers team honestly I would say they have looked the 2nd best of the teams in the AFC West until the final 10 minutes of games. They could easily be 4-0 right now and should have been. That falls on coaching to not be able to close out games. Seems like they just have a completely different game plan in the 4th compared to the rest of the game where they are aggressive and have defenses on their heals and then the defense goes into prevent mode just letting teams drive the ball down the field with ease. So yeah I would say time for him to go.

He just signed and extension in January, 2016 through 2017.... Spanos will likely give him plenty of rope, if the past is any indication. Note the firings of AJ Smith and Norv Turner: Which went about a year beyond where it should have been done, so they wouldn't have to eat contract $$$. This is a relatively cash-poor franchise.

At this point you might as well tank and get a new QB.

Not an ideal situation for Charger fans to be playing this way, with the vote coming up on the proposed stadium. You guys definitely have my sympathy. It wasn't all that long ago that Orthwein threatened to relocate the Patriots to St Louis

Yeah, pretty much a dumpster fire here. Rumor is if the stadium vote gets 50% (likely) but not the required 2/3 (unlikely), Spanos will trigger a clause in his NFL deal that gives him another year. It's clear LA doesn't want them.

Maybe Las Vegas would be a good destination.

of all the games I watched Gordon play in college, I can't recall him ever fumbling

so to do it twice on back to back plays is unfuckinreal

Well in reality he would be taking from the Chargers. Whether he is coaching or not his contract is fully guaranteed. So he still makes millions whether he is on the sideline or not. And because they extended his contract before this season they will have to pay him in 2017 as well and he can just sit and home doing whatever he wants.
