I think you had it right from the get go, Wil. His talent looks like it will force immediate fantasy (and real) production. BJGE will soon be a hand cuff and not a goal line threat. If you remember my keeper league question (I have the 6th pick), I'm hoping he falls to me now, rather than wondering who to pick!

He certainly brings them a dynamic they haven't had in a long time as a true playmaker at the position. BJGE is as mundane as they come, but he has his value at the goal line. IMO, that's where he will be relegated to soon. I'm strongly considering him with the 5th pick of the 5th round in my coming draft (PPR).

Giovani Bernard's ability to catch the ball will make him very dangerous.

The Cincinnati Bengals haven't had a running back who could catch the ball since James Brooks in 1991.

Corey Dillon's best receiving season = 298 receiving yards
Rudi Johnson's best receiving season = 146 receving yards
Cedric Benson's best receiving season = 187 receiving yards

Chris Perry was that guy for 14 games in 2005.... but he wasn't a starter.... defenses expected a pass on those 3rd downs... but he still made the plays (328 yards - remember all those 3rd down receptions called back for holding?!?)

I'm strongly considering him with the 5th pick of the 5th round in my coming draft (PPR).

Remember that in the 3-keeper, ten-team PPR thread Bernard was gone by the end of the second (i.e. fifth). He may not be there at pick #45.

12-team league, so it's 53rd... think I may need to snag him at the end of the 4th?

Bernard went early 4th in my PPR league last night as a RB2. Glad I got him in round 9 as my 4th RB in my PPR league that had an early draft. Once Murray or DMC get injured, he should be the main man in Cincy by then!

I think the cat's out of the bag with Bernard, and you simply have to take him where you rank him and not hope other people haven't noticed.

Sheeit... may need to tweek my strategy a bit. The way I was planning on it going was -

5 - Charles/Spiller/McCoy/Martin
20 - Reggie Bush
29 - Randall Cobb/Andre Johnson/Vincent Jackson/some other WR
44 - Reggie Wayne/Marques Colston/Antonio Brown/some other WR
53 - Gio

Think he'll last to 44? I really don't know if I can take him at 29. I'm also pretty damn nervous about Reggie being there at 20.... rats.

In the four drafts (all standard leagues, no PPR's) that I have done he's gone 50th, 28th, 57th, and 57th. You can't wait for him in the 5th round, the secret is out. You have to decide whether or not he's worth a 4th round pick and I think he is.

With the 3 drafts this past weekend, I had started to buy into him but waited too long to pull the trigger. I guess others were higher on him than I had anticipated. (I still like the teams that I drafted.)

One draft left. My auction league tomorrow night. He should be a steal there.

Joe - just curious since I am thinking about doing a free auction league this week, never done auction before.

So when it comes to your turn to pick players that are auctioned off, would you then continually pick OTHER RBs, in hopes that other owners will spend their alloted funds on those guys, leaving Bernard to be a cheap steal for you?

Or do you just go in with a limit on certain players, and if you get them you get them?

Well if he is there for me at #42 I'm taking him regardless of how the rest of my team looks. Hoping for DThomas, Frank Gore or Demarco at #30 and if that's how it pans out I may actually go RB/RB/RB/RB................but I can start all 4. End of thread jack. Sorry.

I think he gets the starting job early in the season but BJGE will be the short yardage goal line back. He has been pretty safe with the football his entire career.

He probably has more value in a PPR league and I tried to get him for my #3RB / Flex spot.

IMO Bernard = Lacy

I always do this until it's late in the draft and you're picking the last few spots for $1. Let owners spend their money on players you do not want, that way when your player comes up owners have spent some of their cash.

Well it looks like I'm definitely taking him in the 4th then. Good input on your other drafts guys, I appreciate it.

With a PPR format, what are your thoughts on this RB lineup -

Charles/Spiller/McCoy/Martin (1)
Reggie Bush (2) - If I'm lucky
Bernard (4)
Vereen (5)
Ingram (9)

I drafted him late in my draft last night. Not sure which round but was around the 8th. No one watched any Cincinnati games this pre season so they didn't know anything about him. Stealll

Nice man, well done.

I unfortunately have 2 very keen fantasy players in my league who are also die-hard Bengal fans, so I'm gonna hopefully have them cussing up a storm.

If its a RB league then sure thats good... but only a WR in the 3rd and QB in the 6th and then WR 7th and 8th, you are going to be short WRs... I would skip vereen, maybe you can get him later or maybe not he wont help your team anyway...
